curious how many people have done a new HCI on stock bottom end with 100000 + miles.

what problems do you run into?
how long have you been running this?
should you expect it to smoke or burn oil?

suggestions/comments.

i have about 110k on my 95. does not smoke. may use 1/2 quart of oil every 3,000.

what are you guys thoughts on doing this to my motor?

I'd do it if the compression shows you got life left :nice:

Now .. if you ask for more work from that or ANY motor :)

Then Yes ... the life span is gonna be a bit shorter
and it depends upon your habits of driving and
how you take care of it.

compression test would be a must.

my driving habits......well im 23 but i drive like i am 73 ( 80% of the time )

ABOLUTELY! Heck I had 150k on mine and plenty of others go OVER 200k no problem. Serveral have put a blower on theirs with 170+. If there's anything we have over the chebys it is longevity!

You would be wasting half the life of the engine to replace it.

how long have you ran your hci now?
use any oil? smoke?

When I did my first hci combo my short had 97k miles. No problems what so ever. It had like 125k when I pulled it out and it was perfectly running. I really wish I woulda kept that motor in instead of building a new motor. It had TONS of potential with some small changes but i'll never know :(

no smoke, no burn?

im just scared to death of 100k piston rings i guess. i dont smoke now.....

stop my worrying?

did you do a HCI on a stock bottom end? if so, how many miles and how many do you have now?

Yes the pan has never been off mine

My GT is a weekend toy only :)

I don't even come close to putting 5K on it yearly

I did the combo at around 50K and I got right around 60K now

No probs at all :nice:

Still on the same header gaskets since late 2002 :D

I've taken it to East Texas a couple of times
and
To the Hill Country down around Austin

Its all good ... except ... if you push it around town
and
I usually do ;)
the 30's get a bit thirsty :rlaugh:

I bought a new short block at 150k because I did not know any better. If I were to do it again, I would have put the H/C/I on instead of the new SB then. But I was a newbie and though H/C/I was something you eat for dinner , lol.

No seriously think about it. We have lots of examples on this site with "high mileage" engines that run and run and run. My cousing didn't even begin running his 302 at the track until 125k and beat the hell out of it every weeknd with no problems. So...if it breaks and my bets are it won't, THEN make it a 347! :)

thanks for all the responses guys. lots of help and suggestions.

couple of you laughed at my 110k.........its not really alot to me either, but is enough for concern.

heck, maybe i should just put it all on and have fun

one of the reasons im so concerned with it is because there is a reputiable local mechanic here and i mentioned doing the HCI to my stock bottom end. he told me within a short time it WILL start smoking.

on a side note, there is a local friend with a 92lx who had about 120k and he installed a tfs HCI AND 100 shot. and he is VERY hard on his car. it is a DD and it see's the track pretty regular. the motor has either 140k or 160k now and still no problems
