Hey folks, long time lurker here, have gained a lot of useful info over the years here!

I recently purchased my second 5.0, this one is an '89 Fox Hatch GT. It appears to be bone stock other than a few bolt ons including BBK shorty headers, Flowmaster cat-back, BBK 70mm throttle body, CAI, 3g alternator, and 4:10's.

My last SN95 5.0 I built with TFS 170's, stage 1 cam, systemax intake and supporting mods. I don't have the money right now for that set up again. There's a local guy that's selling me GT40P heads with Lunati dual springs and retainers installed and an Explorer upper and lower intake for $450. I consider it a good deal. I have a TFS stage 1 cam on my shelf and Comp 1:7 roller rockers as well (I know I will have to convert from pedestal to stud mount for the rockers).

The guy that sold me the car didn't know much about it and gave me a few loose parts with it including this BBK MAF, he said was calibrated for 29lb injectors so I assume he meant 24lb. I've read E7 heads have no marking on the top side of the head and I pulled my valve cover today and there were some markings I couldn't quite interpret. Before I purchase the GT40P heads, I would like to know what I've got. I'd also like to know what this MAF actually is, as I'll be running 24lb'rs. Please see pictures for the casting marks on the heads and markings on the MAF. If anyone could help me identify these I would greatly appreciate it.

The 12B579 is the Part Number.
E8ZF=
E= 1980 (decade of manufacture)
8= 1988 (year within decade)
Z= Mustang (product line)
F= Engine Accessories (source of part)

That MAF sensor is California only, since in 1988, only Cali cars had them. All got MAF in '89 & all were ABCD.
I can't explain what the "E" terminal is for.
Makes sense, since you are in Nevada.

Can't tell the BBK calibration, unless I can see below the sensor or a pic of the inside. I think the BBK's were C&L, but not sure. If it is a C&L, the calibration tubes are removable & color coded, when you remove the sensor. Measure the ID of the housing, probably 73mm, not the 76mm. You can still get the calibrations tubes from American Muscle who bought C&L.

Thanks for the reply! Here's a pic of the sensor itself.
Any idea on the cylinder heads? Would it be safe to say they are stock?

Only markings I could find was "C2" on the sensor and a "2" on the bottom of the sensor tube.

Didn't realize the C&L used calibration tubes rather than different sensor itself.
Here is the current MAF that's on the car. Looks like stock 55mm, but the marking on the sensor is "C4"

Can't help with the heads.

It's not a C&L sensor; they only provided the housing, not the sensor.
The casting marking don't mean anything.

That's a newer calibration tube. It's 24lb for the 73mm.

Ford has used a Hot-Wire type mass air flow sensor for many years that either comes with or without an internal air temperature sensor. If the MAF sensor has 6 wires, then this is a dead giveaway that it has the air temp sensor integrated inside. If the Ford MAF sensor on your car has 4 wires, then it does not have an air temp sensor integrated within it (the air temp sensor will be somewhere on the air duct that connects the MAF sensor to the throttle body or somewhere on the intake manifold.

Does your connector look like this?
What harness is actually on the car, 4 wire or 5 wire?
You can swap the sensors from housing to housing.

First 4 wire MAF sensor pigtail on car

Second MAF sensor mounted on car and stock housing

Third MAF sensor mounted in the C&L housing.

So it looks like I can use my current 4 pin sensor in the C&L housing with 24lb'rs?

Yes!!!!!!
Save that weird 5-pin sensor. Somebody might need it someday.

Thank you so much for your help, saved me the $250 for a new MAF!
Case closed. I'm thinking are E7's. Plus I don't think I can go wrong getting a set of cleaned up GT40P heads with Lunati dual springs for $300
