First off, its a 66 289 block.

I am in the process of installing GT40p heads, and an edelbrock performer rpm cam. The GT40p heads came with a set of performance valve springs on them, Dual with an inner and outer spring. The cam says that the warranty will be void if I use dual valve springs, and that I should use the edelbrock brand Shure-seat springs.

First question

Can I run dual springs with the edelbrock cam, or even with the stock cam for now safely

Second question

Do I need to use permatex on headgaskets?

Third question

Why the hell are the manifold studs at the Y-pipe so hard to get off
I broke one off in the manifold, the other 3 came out just barely.

For the valve springs edelbrock recommends the seat pressure is 120 pounds. I think the dual valve springs I have are maybe 10 pounds over that.

When I first put in the RPM cam when I had my stock heads, I used the Edelbrock springs. When I got my Trickflow heads I used the dual-valve springs that were preinstalled and I experienced no problems with the RPM cam.

Awesome, thanks for all the replies guys. As a side note, wrestling in heads by yourself is a PITA. When something that heavy smashes a finger, it doesnt hurt... till the numbness goes away

Cam mfgs always recomend that you use their springs. Spring pressure is more important. Side note: Edelbrock heads come with dual springs.

I always thought cam warranties were a joke. If you wipe a lobe, the price of the cam is the least of your problems.
