Heads and cam or supercharger?

I want to eventually do both but I don't know which to do first? I am planning on getting the AFR 165cc street legal heads and the ford E cam. (if yall have any better combos let me know!) For the blower I want to go kenne bell roots style blowzilla. I was thinking about doing the heads and cam first then the blower down the road. What do you think??

I would go with a custom cam. I have an Ed Curtis cam and love it! Great power and drivability. www.flowtechinduction.com You can contact Buddy Rawls or Jay Allen also, they will grind you something that will perform good. 165's are great for an N/A 302, but 185's will be better, but require aftermarket or flycut pistons.

I would go with an AFM blower cam

trick flow heads or 165s

performer intake

trick flow folw well on iontake and would benifite fomr some exhaust porting when you have the blower

If it were me, I would just put a blower on it and call it a day. The Cobra is a fairly strong runner as it is. But that isn't what you are asking. :D Custom ground cam and either AFR 165's or 185's. With that blower, bigger will be better. Trickflow heads would be a good choice too as they are a little "bigger" than similar CC heads.

I have 165's and an s/c. I love the combo. It has crazy low end and it just doesn't stop pulling until you shift. I hit my rev limiter in 1st in like half a second. It revs so fast I just use 2nd to start.

If you go with a power adder first, you will get addicted to the surge. Then you WILL want more. I have seen people resist, only to come back with a bigger cube motor. :D

I would go with heads and cam first. Because if you get a blower now and you decide you want a heads and cam later its going to be more work plus the blower will perform better will the heads and cam. And defiantly do not go with the e-cam. With the AFRs the custom seems the best way to go. Go to the FAQ page and look at people combos. This will give you a good idea of what you might want or need.
Thanks for the input!! So you would stay away from the ford E cam and go with something custom?? What sort of mods do I need to do for the 185cc??
As said before, you need valve reliefs, so your stock pistons will not work. If you don't want to tear apart the motor, then stay away from the 185 series. You will make more power with the 185, but there will be nothing wrong with a 165 + the supercharger.

Just not optimal, I guess. But if you do want to run the 185, you might as well replace the rods & pistons with forged pieces while you are in there.

i agree with swinginline. Id get the blowzilla now and run that until u want more power. With the Gt40 heads and the KB you should make some pretty damn good power. Then when you are bored, you can decide on heads and cam, or maybe a new shortblock as well, so you can run the afr185's.

Paxton Novi 2000. The kenne bell is much less streetable as the boost is full on at 2k rpms.

I must agree w/ the Novi 2K plus Im bised :D I did the blower before the heads and cam and its not a bad move. My first dyno run was not that Impressive but my clutch slipped at 4,200 so I dident get a good run and I had alot of tunning issues. Were all going back to the dyno on the 30th or 31st. I'll have a Power pipe by then and Im going to get it tuned w/ the FMU Off, I think that messed me up more then helped me. I should have more then enough fuel w/ a 190 fuel pump and 30# injectors. I was happy w/ my TQ though, pulling 353 FT LBS at 4,200 RPMS on stock heads and cam is a pretty good thing :D
