HELP ME AVOID THE TEMPTATION

Ok guys, here's the deal. I'm having a really hard time with wanting to keep my car instead of trading it in on a 2005 1/2 vert...talk me out of this...here are my reasons..
1. My car everyonce in a while it acts like it's just gonna keel over, this scares me as i am too poor to even mod my car let alone have someone else fix the whole thing or rebuild the engine or whatever it would take. a new one would be problem free and even if there were some first year kinks i'm SURE it would be waranteed.
2. The 2005s have the same engine as the 2003-4 cobras. my car will never go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds..never. i know you say that if i put the almost 30 grand i'd spend on a new one into my car it would be extremely fast however...with a car payment, i have to pay it every month so i would. mods are optional and most times are more thna the 300 a car payment would be so it involves saving which was not one of God's gifts to me.
3. I'm tired of know one knowing what my car is. rarely do i meet someone who isn't a mustang enthusiast who knows my car is a 5.0. we don't get the same respect as foxbodies do and it makes me tired.
4. i recently inspected my door and found out that the weight of my car is 45xx, with a full tank of gas and all other fluids, me and a passenger that's damn near 5000 pounds!!!!!! i know the new one wont be super light but ford will have had to have made some advances in ten years

I think i am done, there are other reasons but i would like people to read the thread, not roll their eyes because it is so long. sorry for the length but i am in dire need of help!

1. The 2005 has a 300 bhp 4.6L 3V motor, not the same engine at all as the 03/04 Cobra.

2. The 2005 will definitely weigh more than an SN95 (probably 150 lbs more than a 95). Your vert doesn't weigh 4500 with a full tank and a passenger unless your passenger is a sumo wrestler.

The 05 is definitely a nice car, and it's going to be nicer if for no other reason than it's brand new and your 95 is ten years old. Having a car payment on a $30k car is probably not going to be cheaper than fixing the problems on your 95, so don't make that your reason for forking over the cash. Personally I'd wait and get a used low mileage 05 in a year, after someone else has taken the depreciation hit :).

And if you're worried about respect, why are you driving a Mustang in the first place? :rlaugh:

The new Mustangs will be great no doubt! But, listen to a 33yr old man who has bought a few cars in the past 17 years. I have had:1965 Dodge Coronet, 1968 GMC p/u, 1946 Willy's CJ2A, 1989 Dodge Colt (turbo'd), 1994 Ford Ranger Supercab XLT, 1996 Dodge Stratus, 1999 Dodge Durango, and now the 1995 Mustang GT. This does not include the wife's vehicles. All were great vehicles that for one reason or another I got rid of. If I could take money from half of these vehicles and put it into the other half then I would have four awesome cars IMO. A 94-95 Mustang is rare in that it has the newer body style and the tried and true 5.0L pushrod 8 cylinder engine. It might not be the most rare Mustang but definately worth keeping. All it takes is disipline with money to repair and make your car what you want it to be. Disipline that is easier than that required for a new car that you have to have in order not to screw up your credit history. And for those who don't know that you have a 5.0L just don't know cars well enough. The tail lights on our cars tell everyone that it is a 94-95 model and that 4.6's weren't available in the first two years. Keep your car. Fix it and mode it. Go to school or something. Get a real paying gig. Then buy an '05 style Mustang used and fix it up to go with your classic 94-95 Mustang :nice:

:stupid: Keep the 95 and fix it. If you're having trouble paying for the 95 there is NO way you could possibly afford an 05. Plus those modular engines will be TONS more to fix than a 5.0, although you wouldn't have to worry about until the warranty ran out.

I just realized this in your post. I take this to mean 1 of 2 things.

A. You don't have the money to save

or.....

B. Like JJ95GTID, you need discipline with money. If you have the cash flow coming in but blow it on other things you'll just dig yourself a even BIGGER hole with a 05.

I'm not trying to be rude or mean but if it's B then the problem is with how you spend the money. Either way unless your 5.0 is a total POS it's gonna be much cheaper than a 05.

The 5.0 motor is better the the new 3v 4.6...cheaper parts, cheaper to fix, and yours is probably paid for already? The 05 has about 75 more hp but its gonna be close to 200 lbs heavier, a hci would put you well ahead of the 05 for 2,000 in parts. From what I hear car payments arent too fun, my brother just paid 18k for a car and by the time he gets done with payments I think he said it will have cost him close to 25k. Insurance is the other thing, on a car thats 10 years old you don't need to have collision, if I was making payments on a sports car my insurance would rape me to the tune of 3-4k per year.

1. The 95 is easy to fix unlike the 05.
2. 05 300HP, 4.5 seconds to 60? I don't think so.
3. 05 is Mo Money, Mo Money.
4. 05 insurance is Mo Money, Mo Money.
5. 05 mods are Mo Money, Mo Money.
6. Who cares if people respect or don't repsect the 95.
7. The 95 probably weighs around 3500 without a driver.

Not sure if ford will use this or not...But talking to fellow Repair Business owners around the valley here, They're already getting 2005 Dodge Magnum and 05' Vette owners coming in getting an "Irratic Driver" Code. This is a hidden code that's set when you drive the car abusively. If the code trips, you take it to the dealer, and they find the code, all warranties are void. So for that reason I'd avoid a new car like that. Plus if you're dead set on a brand new car, I'd wait til 06. That'll give time for Ford to revise any build issues with the 05's (remember the early 03' cobra fiasco). Good Luck.

Ok guys, here's the deal......

1. If you cant afford to fix this one, there is NO way you could swing the paymets plus insurance on an 05..anyways Ford will probably give you what? MAYBE 4k on a trade in for your car if your lucky...that wont even put a dent in the payments for an 05. 1st year "kinks" are under warranty BUT they are annoying, they pop up out of nowhere and then your stuck with a rental 98 escort that smells like someone pissed in the drivers seat last week and has eleventybillion miles on it.

2. the 05 doesnt have the 03-04 Cobra engine in it...the 05 GT has a SOHC 4.6 with 3 valves per cylinder, NOT the DOHC 4.6 with 4v per cylinder like the 03-04 Cobras, not to mention it isnt supercharged. The new GT will NOT go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, the new COrvette C6 with 400hp goes 0-60 in 4.3! and weighs less than the new GT...car payments plus the insurance jump will kill you, especially if you cant save money. And you dont even want to imagine how fast/how well your car would handle if you put 30k into it. It would be absolutly insane, i doubt you could even imagine.

3. who cares if they dont know what your car is? obviously they dont know as much about cars as they think they do if they think its a 4.6L...you could always be like me and get a plate that mentions you have a 5.0.

4. your car DOES NOT weigh that much...not even close, try 3500lbs and the new GT will weigh more...i believe the 03-04 Cobras weigh around 3800lbs :notnice:

not to mention with some shopping you could score a used Viper for that kind of money  :flag: :nice: but insurance would kill that idea...

yeah??ummm i weighed my car at moroso and it weighed in at 3200, how come all your are so heavy???
1. The original poster has a convertible, which is noticably heavier than a coupe.
2. There was also a reference to the GVWR, which is not curb weight.

I work for a chevy dealer and we just watched our intro video to the new 05 vett and that is a load of crap. I have never even heard of anything like this from any of the big three much less chevy. I don't think there is any way that the pcm of the vehicle could even tell that it is erractic driving or not. Anyway "erractic driving" does not void your warranty, it is the aftermarket parts that actually cause the failure that voids it. Besides, dealers get the code explanations long before the indepents do and some of these cars have not even been fully released yet. We have still not even seen one 05 vette on our lot yet.

I wanted to point something out that everyone else has missed. You do know that people here on stangnet will help you fix your car if you ever need it. I mean, look at all of the "help" threads in this section.

Secondly, if you keep posting pictures of yourself here, you will probably find guys willing to drive to your house to help fix the car!!! The mustang crowd sticks together and helps each other out whenever someone is in need. I mean this with 100% sincerity.

You are right about people thinking our cars have the 4.6L image. I get that a lot. But that would be fixed with some simple rebadging (if it bugs you that much).

My brother has a 2003 GT, and he is selling it for a 94-95 GT or a 96-98 cobra. The potential of either car is endless. He has the nasty payments of $280 for the car and $330 for the insurance. With the 94-95, he will drop both down significantly.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Ok..Don't kill the messenger!...Just passing along what I've heard from different techs. Guess they made it all up. BTW Mercedes can tell driving habits so I don't think it'd be too hard for anyone else. Someone else on here mentioned it before as well. Again, my post was just sharing what I heard.
