Help me pick an exhaust

The Magnaflow tips are really nice for a Cobra bumper...not so much on LX style rear covers. The good part is that they're adjustable so you can get them 'just right' but it does get old looking at them.

Overpriced junk...psh...

ok so its not junk, but man i hope he doesnt think its gonna sound anything like the EVIL SSP!

if so he will be horribly disappointed...

Well, remember that those clips i posted weren't the stroker, they're just a 302 with ported heads and an X303. It really doesn't sound any different now with the stroker except a little meaner at WOT.

i need a video clip, bbk equal length shorties dr gas o/r x and spintech prostreets. doesnt get any better than except maybe longtubes w dr gas x pipe. ssp thats what makes ur car sound good is the dr gas x pipe

That's what i think too. I've heard Magnaflows with an H and i don't like them. Same thing goes with Mac...Mac sounds good with an H and a Pro Chamber but they really hit the sweet spot with an X. I really wanna get my hands on some Spintechs but the cash isn't there right now and i'd rather find the tail pipes i want first.

My plan is to get my setup to where all i have to do is swap out the mufflers themselves so that i have the same flow tubes and tail pipes...makes for an easy install and swap process. The one thing i love doing is changing my mufflers when i get bored with them....it's the easiest way to get a new feeling out of your car for an hour or so of work in your driveway.

even so, its the only time i have heard magnaflows sound good

my friend put a 2 cat X pipe and magnaflow cat back on his 88 GT and it sounded flat out lame

i had Magnapacks on my 97 Cobra with the stock H pipe and it sounded good at WOT but burbled as if it was under water at lower RPM's

I am and probably will always will be a fan of chambered muffler sound over turbo-style muffler sound.

MAC mufflers to me are by far the best sounding muffler you can get...something about the tone and the note they emit...it just does it for me.

As a side note, I have a single 40 series flowmaster on my F150 with a 351 and at the right RPMs it sounds like a Mustang...gotta love that the 351W firing order is the same as the 5.0HO :D

I've had a lot of people say mine don't sound like typical Magnaflows...i have no idea why. If they were old and broke in i would think it has something to do with that...my buddy's GT has Macs on it and they're about 8 years old and i swear it's because they're so old that they sound so different...it's like aged wine or something. Mine only had literally 2k miles on them when i got them so they're basically brand new. I got them from a guy who had them on a 60k mile '87 LX and he liked Flowmasters better. He did have them with an H though.

Also i really don't like the idle much either...it definitely has that burble thing you mentioned. I definitely like chambered mufflers better at idle, but the cruising speed sound and the complete lack of drone make up for it.

Guess I'm weird. I like the burble at idle. My Pypes Violators have that in abundance. I just don't like how loud they are behind a catless mid-pipe. With cats ahead of 'em, they're good, not as raspy, and they won't draw cops like flies; without cats, I have to be reeeeeeally gentle with the throttle and keep it under 2k RPM whenever I see the po-po because I don't want a fix-it ticket. :hide:

well im glad im gonna be a sheriff soon, and that i know the local cops, when my car was running i had factory headers and h pipe with out anything behind it and it sounds great, throaty and raspy at the same time, but when i drove by i got thumbs up from the local cops

I wish I would have done that with my setup. Behind my mufflers are the u-clamps which bend the pipes so that swapping is next to impossible and in front is welded. :(

I find myself wanting one exhaust for car shows and weekend cruising and another for daily commuting.

I'm telling you that car has a snarling, racey sound that I have yet to hear on any other 5.0 with Magnaflows. It just goes to show that the entire setup makes a difference. I'm running Magnaflows on both my cars and I am not thrilled at all. lol I do prefer them for my daily ('92) simply because I wanted the quietest muffler I could get for the money.

For my '90 I will be going back to chambered but not before I upgrade to a high-quality, stainless steel, true X-pipe. I don't care for the "pitter-patter" idle but it's not a deal breaker.

you could do some sort of electric exhaust cutout and have 1 side of the piping go out with no muffler and one side with the muffler
