If you looking for a beater/driver you could look for at the early-mid 90's Taurus's.
Myself and a buddy had one as winter beaters/drivers/pizza delivery cars in college. My buddy drove his 4cyl with a rod knock for 40K+ miles, mine developed a knock in the trans and it still drove fine. I parked at the metro-link Hanley station while going to U.M. St Louis and got bashed into a few times.
Those things are TANKS...when I got a new beater we literly ran over it with a lifted K5 blazer, bashed it with my bronco, blazer, and a 3/4 ton truck with a heavy duty push bar. Then I DROVE it to the junk yard
. I wedge a big ice scraper to the gas peddle thinking it would not take long to blow up...took 10-15min of WOT.
You could probably find a nice gen1 SHO or something around 3k.

I will try to extract some patience, but the sooner I find something the sooner I can start yanking the Stangs motor and get a 351
