i did a intake and cam swap job for a customer with a high mileage engine years ago. when i torqed the new intake the heads lifted and caused a head gasket prob. a leak down tester confirmed the prob. the prob was two cyllinders were sharing compression(blown gaskets between cyllinders). it was a very small leak but enough to f up the job.good luck.just sharing my experiences. this lifting the heads issue is an old school prob with the sbf.

Thats why the inner head bolts(the ones under the valve covers should be 10 or so ft. lb tighter than the outer ones......When i did my friends head gaskets, i did the outer ones 70 and the inner ones 80.....Its recommended by Felpro too i no that, it says on the little paper that comes with the gaskets and Ford tested it many times

Sorry to bring this back up, but i'm having the same problem.

Motor runs like crap, no vacuum at idle, no source of the leak.

WOuld a valve hanging open due to stud mounted rockers being installed too tight cause there to be little to no vacuum??
