Here's what I did with my weekend... (typical last minute decision for me)

I spent the weekend thrashing on my car to get my AFR185 comp heads and probe shaft mount rockers installed. It was a LONG and grueling weekend but the car is now up and running. I decided at the last minute (which is typical for me) to do this before I race the car at Cecil County Dragway this weekend at the SSOTN race. I was going to wait and do the swap over the winter, but I wanted to see how it would run NA with these heads. I was running my old AFR 165 pedestal heads but I feel at was just about at their flow limit on my combo. Despite having flu like symptoms and puking my brains out on Saturday, the car fired up yesterday and I took her out on a drive. All was going well considering until I noticed my lights growing dim. I pulled over and discovered in my sick state I had forgotten to plug in the alternator. LOL! So I called yeahloh95 up and he helped push it so i could catch it in gear. I'm going out a little later to start tuning it but I made a quick WOT run in 3rd gear up to ~5800rpms and OMG, what a difference. My datalog shows that I'm a full point lean now in some spots which is a clear indication that I'm making more power now! Besides the WOT run, this thing is snappier EVERYWHERE. Even cruising in 5th at 40mph, when I just start to touch the throttle there is instantaneous response. The car is much more smooth now too and according to Jason a lot of it has to do with the extremely high velocity intake port and great flowing/scavenging exhaust port on these heads which help to prevent reversion in the lower RPMs and I'll tell you what, this is something you can actually feel without a doubt. I thought that I may lose a little down low going from my 165's to these 185s and the opposite seems to be true according the SOTP meter. I'll have hard numbers soon to hopefully back up the butt meter, but I'm extremely impressed thus far with how much I can actually feel is different with the car now. This may seriously have been one of the biggest SOTP meter improvements I've felt in this car after changing something on it.

Probe shaft mount rockers...

The probe shaft mount rockers cleared under these TF VC's when I used a thick fel pro gasket. I'll be sanding off the trick flow name and powercoating them this winter, I just didn't have the time to do it now.

Nice man. Pretty slick considering your lack of compression and a displacement that some people would consider "too small" to run those heads. How high are you going to spin it at the track and do you have any goals?

You're going to be jonesing for more seat time in a big way after your shake down runs take you into the 11s with less than stock compression and not enough gear, N/A!!!

Hows the duty cycle on your 30s now? I still don't get how theyre not maxed out @ the power youre making. Only thing I can think of is the low compression and lower rpm? If you remember, my 347 is 11:1 and I spin around 6,800 and I was seeing 96% duty cycle before the shift light comes on with my 30s. I have a buddy with a similar combo (11:1 347, afr 185s, rpm II, fti cam) and he was seeing 100% on his 30s @ 395rwhp on a mustang dyno.

I'm going to spin it until it slows down LOL! Honestly, I think I was short shifting it before with the 165's as I dared not take then any higher than 6300rpms. I had my rev limiter set to 6400. I plan to bump that to 6600 now as I think 6400 or so would be the best shift point, but that may have changed with the new flow potential of these heads. As for goals, I hope to make 400rwhp and maybe, just maybe see close to 120mph NA. Its a lofty goal but I had to set something to go after. In all honesty though I'll be happy with 118 as that is more reasonable with the weight of this car. I'm at 3450lbs right now as it sets with the new roll bar without me and with a full tank of fuel. I'll get that weight down somewhat with skinnies, drag tires, less fuel, but its still a pig.

Mike- Right now at 6600rpms at -0.04psi (which is about as high in the load table as I can get NA) my duty cycle after my last tune will be 84.1%, if I ran it to 7300 it'd be 89.6%. I am not done tuning it yet though so those numbers may go up somewhat. After seeing the PMS for years I really think it shows higher than normal duty cycles as almost everyone I have ever seen with one reports the same things as you. I mean I made 380rwhp with 24's and they were nearing 90%, so I have no fear that these 30's won't be enough while I'm NA. Now when I put the turbo on I don't think 60's will even cut it. On a side note, my compression should check in at exactly 9.0:1 now with these new heads as they have the 58cc combustion chamber comapred tom my old 165's that had the 60cc ones.

he is not kidding about the 3450 weight as i had to push him across the chillies parking lot , because the jump box i took along was dead.

I can see it now:

Paul: Come on troy put some a** behind it
Troy: (holding cellphone) Yes Tabitha, I'll be right there, gotta get paul going first
Paul: Hang up the phone and come on
Troy: Sorry Tabby, Paul was talking. What was that honey ?
Troy: yes dear, I'll be right over.

:lol::lol:

That toy is coming together nicely :nice:

I think you'll get pleasantly surprise at the track

Good luck Paul.

Thanks Kenny! This thing is a monster with these heads. I'm sorry I didn't call you when we came to Aruba this year. I stopped by the marina a few times to see if I may catch you, but your boat was either gone or it was there and you were no where to be found. Our vacation literally snuck up on me this year and I barely had time to pack let alone make any plans. If we come next year I'll be sure to hit you up. It was hot as hell the week when we were there, it was downright unbearable.

Charlie- LOL!
