you need to decide if you want a modular motor over a pushrod, there are ups and downs...the 5.0 is going to be much cheaper to modify

You mean trade an SN95 for another Sn95??

I say do it. There's nothing like a nice newer car that you can just put gas in and go.

True but car payments may be a pain in the butt for some people.

I'm happy my '99 is paid off..

True, but there is a point where a few decent sized repair bills can almost equal payments. Then you need to consider the inconvience of dropping the car off for service and bumming rides and stuff like that.

That's what made me buy my '03..and it's been 4 years of only needing to put gas in it and driving it.

Mine is paid off as well, so i guess it's the best of both worlds

Thats where the whole buying a new car that looks newer and nicer but then has problems vs. keeping the 5.0 and throwing money at it while keeping the same gas mileage and that sort.

Ahh the crapshoot of buying & owning cars.

You just gotta do your homework and avoid buying cars based on initial wow factor.

To what extent? Bolt-on's for both cars are approximately the same in price and the '02 is already starting things off with a 45hp advantage. Maybe if making big N/A power is your goal, the OHV is going to be cheaper, but for basic bolt-ons and power adder applications, you're further ahead with the OHC.

yep i agree with gearbanger..

a modular responds much better to boost then a 5.0.. you can solidly get 300-350 out a bolt on supercharged 5.0.. where a NA 2v your talking low 400s-450... depending on your mods and balls of course

you can easily get 300+ hp na out of a 5.0...holley makes the systemax kit that gurantees 330hp na...and i believe thats a fairly mild kit for only 2500$...try getting that much power for that amount of money with a 4.6....

Alright....now price out the cost of the Holley Heads, Cam and Intake as well as all gaskets, new head bolts/studs and miscellaneous items needed for installing them as well as the complete host of bolt ons (full exhaust, intake, pulleys, etc) to support that claimed 330hp (you didn't think you'd get there with the stock exhaust and intake components, did you?) And his is all without taking into account the cost of labor

Then consider that the stock PI heads and Intake on a '99-up 2V SOHC is already saddled with great flowing heads and intake, which will sufficiently move enough air to accomplish this goal and as a result, do not need to be removed/changed. So by comparison, you'll really only need to add cams to the long block and the same slew of bolt on parts you already needed for the 5.0L in order to reach the same goal.

Do the math man.....it's not as cut and dry as you may think. You've got to really start working with cubes and power adders both or at the least a complete replacement of the top end and power adder to take be at any sort of equal footing or advantage with the OHV engine at this point.
