Ok so I just had a headlight (good thing I had a spare) go out tonight and thought this is a good time to think of HIDs. I was told maybe Silverstars but from looking at the prices then the lifespan of the bulbs thought HIDs might be a better solution. My car is an '08 GT with the factory halogen bulb housing. Ive heard a lot of good and bad about them with light scattering from the factory housing anyone have this problem? Does anybody suggest an appropriate color temp for daily driving (4300 to 6000k?) since the time change every evening I'm driving every night full dark and I dont really wanna be flashed at every car I meet.

When you say "08 GT with the factory halogen bulb housing" is your headlight housing different from my 06's? I have been looking into HIDs as well AM has a HID Dual Beam Headlight Conversion Kit for 05-11 Mustang (H13 Bulb) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!, I have been looking into this one.

I live in the Mountains/Country and when I leave for work @ 4:45am it is pitch black out and I could really use more light, I dont really care about other people flashing me, if they do, I'll just hit the high beams real quick and let them know if they thought I had the high beams on before they were mistaken :D besides I pass maybe 2 cars at that time of the morning.

I know nothing more about HIDs except they are brighter, so I'm sorry that I cant give you any advice about color temp.

Silverstars are not HID, they are just brighter halogens. I get flashed on occasion, and like the guy before me said, I orient the offending flasher to the true power of my HIDs with a quick flash of the high beams. I love my factory HID lights, better than any lighting I've had on any car. Get a true HID kit and you'll love the improvement.

astronut1885, The HID kit from AM which I linked to in my #2 post, is that a "True HID" kit? I dont want to waste $$ on something if its not high quality.

Also astronut, how was the install of the CDC Chin on your 2010, I got my Mom one for Christmas and I was reading the instructions, it says that the horns need to be relocated (no biggie I'm sure) but how easy/hard was the install overall, and hows the fitment? On my 06 it was a 15 min job and absolute perfect fitment. Looks a bit harder on the 10's.

I can recommend the HID kit from Retrosolutions. High quality and lifetime warranty, and plug & play. Also, If you do not have the black cap/cup thing over the bulb, Retrosolutions has an option of a coating over the end of the tube that does the same thing. This helps not to blind oncoming traffic. To my knowledge, they are the only company that offers this. I have been running their kit for years without a single issue. :nice:

One thing I read when I got mine, somebody recommended using not only the gaskets on the HID bulbs, but also use the gaskets on the bulbs you are replacing. One gasket didn't seem quite thick enough. I did this. It made the new bulb a little harder to lock into place but it did. In like 3 years I have never had any condensation in my headlights.

Very good advice GoldenPony, I will use the gasket that comes with the new bulbs and the gasket from my old bulbs, the tighter the better no? LOL!!!!!

I noticed over at AFM in your Siggy that you had the 35W 6000K bulbs, I got the 55W 6000K bulbs, you think there is much of a difference between the two?

I wouldn't expect a huge difference. I'm sure the 55W will be a little brighter. I went with 35W because that is what OE HIDs are. I also thought the 35W would run a bit cooler and might last a bit longer.

Looks like a true HID, so you should do fine with that. The chin spoiler took me about an hour with crappy tools on my back in a driveway, not the most ideal situation, with ramps it would have been much faster. The horns literally get unbolted, flipped, and then re-bolted. Don't forget to paint the windshield washer fluid res black or it will look like crap under there.

Installed them today, was pretty easy after I lengthened the fuse wire, I did not need to use the gaskets from my old bulbs as the HID bulbs fit nice and tight with the gaskets provided :nice:

I just went out (now that its dark) and holy crap they are SOOOOOO much brighter and whiter than the factory halogens, you can really tell the difference between the HID'S and the fogs with the halogens, I need to HID up the fog lights now.

I Hope Retro Solutions has a kit for the fogs :nice:

Thank you for the chin spoiler info Astronut, I'll be doing it the same way as you most likely, on my back in my driveway, and it'll probably be 25 degrees out bcos my Mom will most likely want it installed 30 seconds after she opens it on Christmas day LOLOLOL.
