Still on my quest to find a Mustang. Ran across a 97 GT today with 150k on it.. It has Flowmasters and a hacked up stock intake.. The only thing that worries me is the milege on it. It doesnt leak or smoke, and it runs good. We tached it out pretty hard and it snarls right on. Only thing I noticed is the clutch pedal has a little play in it. Its got sum fugly rims but I would replace them with either some factory 17's Deep dish Bullits.. Or maybe Cobra rims. I dont have any way to get the car to my mechanic because it isnt insured right now. Its had the intake manifold replaced with the newer plastic/aluminum one. Whats the BIGGEST thing to watch out for with this thing? He said he isnt scared to have any mechanic look at it and that it would drive anywhere... So do you think milege is just a number if its been taken care of?

If it's an automatic trans, look at the fluid. If it smells burnt then that is a red flag.It could only be old or it could mean the trans is ready to go.Try to find out what kind of life it had.Owned by a kid with a heavy foot or driven by someone who actually cared about the car.Look under the oil fill cap to see if there is a lot of sludge that has built up over the years. This won't tell you a lot but it's one more thing to base a decision on.It's like buying any other high mileage car.Look it over good and decide.

Its a 5 speed. The guy said he was the 2nd owner, I know he has a little fun with it by the way he was talking, but he was also a mechanic so I guess it might have been maintained allright. Anyone else?

well i have also have a 97 GT 5spd and it has a 142k miles right now i got it at 130k and while i did have to replace shocks, struts, got a new clutch, heater core, replaced every liquid i could find, I would tell you that its a great car mine still runs great, and yours might not need all that. I would say go for it only if you like the car and would think it was worth putting in 500-1000 dollars to replace any of the things that wear over time, also the price tag if its under 6k it might be worth it check the kbb.com price on it and go from there
