Not the factory Hi-Po crap. I mean high winding, screaming monster 260-289c.i. motors. Who has one and what do you have done? I dont want to see stroked or poked motors either.
You aren't going to get much from a 260 because the small bore shrouds the valves. .
You might want to rethink that statement. The Mod motors have the same small bores, actually smaller than the 260's. The 260's bores were 3.8" vs the mods with 3.55" No reason a 260 couldn't put out. Shelby did the first Cobra's with em. The Sunbeam Tigers had em too. You might want to rethink that statement. The Mod motors have the same small bores, actually smaller than the 260's. I'll see if I can't get the dyno graph from work on friday.
289, AFR 185s and a solid flat.
Made 340rwhp with a c4.
Ah, but grasshopper, they are two completely different motors, For max flow they used 4V, and over head cams. And still yet, are not know for there low end grunt.
Dayuuummm!
I'm betting that 289 barely idled, and spit raw fuel out the exhaust tips.
Are you directing this to me? I was just wanting to feel some love for the small motors!!What vehicle are you putting it in? What kind of gears? Street car, or full out race car? How much do you want to spend? You can retrofit a roller cam, get .600ish lift, and still idle. Steeper gears, taller tires, weight, and what kind of transmission will all play into it.
What are you planning on doing?
Even the 2 valve motors have the benefit of hemispherical combustion chambers. No shrouding when the valve moves towards the center of the bore.
the engine really starts to pull right around 5500-5800 and pulls hard to 7800.. it did put down 371 rwhp with a differnt cam and throught the toploader, 470rwhp on a 125 shot of juice..I don't know what 2 valve Mod heads you've been looking at, but all the ones I've seen have in-line valves, same as the Windsors.
