Why does it have to be a LED - here's why. A regular light bulb filament has to heat up to produce light and that takes time. The pulse from the PIP sensor is so short in duration that the light bulb filament never has a chance to get hot. In contrast, a LED will flash with the briefest pulse applied to it. That's why noid testers use a LED.
