How hard is it to re-wire an entire car?

I bought some Infinity Kappa component speakers (4 total; 2 for the doors and 2 for the rear deck) and was told that I need to re-wire the car in order for them to work properly off my external amp (a 400 watt rms Kicker amp). Obvioulsy, the amp will power them, so is it necessary to re-wire the entire car with bigger gauge wire for these particular speakers? If so, how does one go about re-wiring a Mustang? Any online links that show step by step process?

not hard at all. Run some 12 or 14 gauge up from the trunk to the the dash, (where your going to put your crossovers that came with the components) then locate the wires going into the factory boot behing the kick panel. either use a coat hanger or a hard wire to get it through the boot. Then attach the speaker to the wire, and to the crossover and your done! simple and better quality for sure.

Yeah, I have a 96 also and it is not very hard to re-wire. The previous owner ripped out the Mach 460 system and butchered the existing speaker wires. I was pretty much forced to rewire.

It is fairly easy to re-wire all the speakers in our cars. I have a 02, and did all my speakers and cross overs in a few hours.

As long as you know how to get the door panels off, and know to force the speaker wires through hard boot between the door and all the rest is cake.

Its worth the time...so do it.

PS. I would use good wires too, not crappy cheapo stuff. You get what you pay for.

Thanks guys, but I still have a couple more questions.

-For those of you with the 94-04 body style and Mach 460 sound, what interior paneling did you have to remove to re-wire the car? I'm sure this is the hardest part of re-wiring. I've already removed my driv. side kick panel, door sill, interior quarter panel and some other stuff. As I said, the whole Mach 460 has been ripped out.

Watch out. It is a whole lot easier to complete this process if you remove as much interior as possible. You dont want to be trying to cram the speaker wires and RCAs through little spaces and carpet if you can help it. At the least, I would take out the front seats, center console, and the door panels if you are running all new wires. It would make everything a whole lot easier.

I did not remove my seats or anything like that.

I removed.
-door panes
-kick panels
-door trim / kick plate
-interior corner panels
-rear deck
-Whole trunks panels (this was done to build the box since most my trunk is GONE)

I just lifted up the carpet on both the pass and driver side. Ran the power down one side, and the RCA's and speakers down the other side. I suggest the power running down the drivers since that is the side with the battery.
