I finally got a bargin on a gt body kit to convert my lx. As I started sanding some of the parts... What do I find? 4 LAYERS OF PAINT!!! The top was a type of metallic black, then silver, then blue, and finally black again. That was just the side panels. Both bumpers also have a layer of red too, so prob 5 layers of paint. It just makes me wonder in the past 17yrs how many times & colors has my mustang been painted? If you know yours.. out of curiosity... how many colors or times has yours been painted? That way I could prob get a good idea about mine.

once... it was repainted by the previous owner. they did a awsome job on the body work/paint

Car still wears the 17 year old factory refrigerator white paint.....am gonna try to wax it back to life but it looks like it needs a repaint. I dont think I will change the color though...I think a real clean white fox would be awesome

never.. im still on factory paint.. but about to paint as i just converted my LX to GT.. done with it as far as putting it all on.. i'll update my thread tommorow

I had the 90 painted a few years back but it was factory when I bought it. The '92 still has factory paint.

mine went from white to calypso by the previous owner but the car was stripped all the way and painted

Mine appears that it has only been painted once. It also appears to have been painted fairly recently and same color as factory.

Looks like most of you only seem to have gotten paint 2x at that. I am NOT looking forward to removing all that paint. Think what I'll do is sand as much as possible, then use some of that urethane paint remover.

3 times all the same color though

Hit in the front = repainted
Hit in the rear = repainted
Built at the factory = original paint

Original, then painted by me in 2000.

It could use another paint job since black shows every imprefection and the car was a DD until 2 yeasrs ago, but this time i an gonna strip EVERYTHING out of the car and deliver a rolling chassis and have them spray everywhere black. This way it's done right and i don't have to worry about it as much since it is just a weekend cruiser now

My car has been repainted, but they completely stripped all the factory paint off, primed it, blocked it, and bace cleared it. Its going to be the base for my new paint!

My 89 is original paint.
My 93 is original paint.
Dads 91 is original paint.
Brothers 06 is original paint.
Sisters, who knows, TONs would be my guess.
86 roller, again who knows, but probably a few.

Hard to say for sure, but my current estimate puts it around five. The door color code states it was originally burgundy, but the sloppy masking job someone did way back when indicated a respray of the same/similar color (looked to have more metal flake in it) of some sort took place. Then some total douche went hog-wild with dark gray primer and hosed EVERYTHING - badges, wheels, vent grille, you name it - and I sanded the crap out of it and gave it a ghetto spray of Wal-Mart rattle-can white and re-did all the trim gloss black. That, in turn, started to look horrible ... wait, no, it looked horrible to start with (big surprise) ... so, I upped the ante by sanding that all off and then rolling on (yes, ROLLED) two coats of oil-based Commercial Grade Rustoleum Gloss Black and re-spraying the trim to a proper Duplicolor matte black, all of which came out surprisingly well ... umm, for $50 total and two days' work, at least...

Hey, with almost a quarter of a million miles on the clock and more minor dings, dents, and other cosmetic yuckies all over the place, I never figured it'd make sense to go dumping a ton of cash on a fancy paintjob. Besides ... paint won't make it go fast (and would only detract from the budget for go-fast parts).
