how much spray can the plastic intake take?

I'd say you could get away with a 150 shot tuned properly and spraying at 3500+. I can tell you from experience that a 200 shot won't work. On the dyno it looked perfect but in the real world my intake blew to pieces the first time I ran it through the gears(racing a 427 C5). If you want a shot that big, you need something more like the nozzle kit from nos.....

I'd actually rather go with a Venom Recluse 500-8 because it has a computer controlled air:fuel ratio cut off. I like that idea, sounds like it will keep me from blowing up that side, but there's still pooling from having a lousy sprayer. Wow, that's a lotta research in one day. More to come tomorrow.

If you guys are worried about air pressure destroying the stock intake, my PI intake has (so far) handled up to 16 lbs. of PSI through my S-Trim... So far...

I blew a PI intake apart with a dry shot and the real damage came from the plastic getting sucked down and bending some valves

2. I've heard of it and finally someone comes forward that has had it happen with a dry kit.

Now here's some food for the original poster the "old" rule of thumb was up to 50% of the output in n2o was ok. ie 200hp 100 hp shot. 300 hp 150 hp shot.

so your thinking your car makes 400hp? or are you going for a doubling of Hp?
I was always told up to 75% is semi safe over that is just asking for trouble. so 200 hp car 150hp shot.

i have a pi intake on a non pi head set up i run a 150 dry shot that all the mass air can handle and a dry shot will have less back fire because the mixture of nitro and fuel is what can cause this if u stay with a dry shot u should be ok i ran 1.78 seconds faster on this setup its simple and alot cheaper i built my kit peace buy peace off ebay ran me about 190 buck price a kit pi heads would give as much power cause bigger flowing heads less hit from nitro but if u need to know more just ask not trying to say anyone doesnt know what they are saying just saying ive been there ive sprayed this car about 35 times had one backfire but i out ran it through the shift

that venom kit is pretty sweet. i was thinking of getting that for my 02 as well. i like the idea of the computer shut off safety, plus it comes with different nozzles so you can get used to the feel of nitrous.

you have to take the bottle out of your car durring the summer? doesnt a bottle heater get it hotter than the sun would sitting in your trunk?

what gears would be ideal for 75-100 shot of nitrous?

my bad i would go with nothing bigger than 373 gears. as for the bottle heater it will do the job u dont have to worry about the sun to much but i would keep an eye on it cause bottle heaters when wired up wrong cause bad bad things. There is a new kit out for 4.6 mustangs made by nx. The silinods are flat box type and easy to hide. If u like to hide ur stuff i would go with it and it comes with all u need for 350 on ebay. The bottle heater works off of pressure of the bottle and not how how it is but to much pressure of course with go boom boom in ur trunk. They is a lawsuit against a certain company for that. The burst disk on the bottle failed and the guy came home to find his car in half. It was on a website ill try to find it and post it.

Exactly, 100 shot is the most i would run on your setup. The nly time this is not true is when the engine is specificly setup to run large amounts of nitrous, i.e. some pro stock cars....ect.

UGHH my head hurts.
Ok the bottle burst was a NX bottle, it was in a maxima in FL (I think) he left the heater on in the car in the garage in the summer. The owner says he had all the safety stuff installed IE blowdown tube and rupture disk but the bottle over pressured and BOOM. It is, I believe, the 2nd case ever happening with a commercial n2o bottle the other was a NOS some time ago. Now the other poster is correct the NX heater works off bottle pressure SO if you leave bottle closed and heater on it just keeps heating and heating till you turn it off. That's one reason why I like a thermo controlled heater, less chance of that happening.

In the summer in the trunk YES the pressure can get TOO high for safely shooting. I've seen mine go over 1250psi on a hot day.

As for gearing, I like my 4.10's with the spray or N/A. IMO going from 3.27 - 3.73's is a waste of money unless you do ALOT of highspeed runs, or plan on a KB or turbos.

Simply not true. NITROUS adds power by adding more air and fuel. As long as all the NITROUS and fuel get to the chamber,any kit will add the same amount of power to any existing engine. (other factors change the gain but it's a mathmatical thing)

What you had was technically a backfire caused by spraying NITROUS through your mass air meter and loading the car with too much fuel. You did not "out run" it. "it" travels about the speed of a low caliber bullet. The type of backfire to worry about is the kind that travels BACK throug the intake manifold causing massive damage.

I have used the NX wet kit for 3 years now. Sprayed 150 probably 25 times and 100 many many times. 175-once so far. A rpm window switch is a must. I have mine running from 2900-5900 rpm. Too low and you will get a fuel puddle backfire. Too high and the factory rev limiter(which uses fuel cut off) will have you feeding your engine pure NITROUS. A very bad thing.

is the kit featured on Mustangtuning.com, http://mustangtuning.com/vevcn10nikit.html , any good? i heard it measures the air/fuel ratio by using the o2 snesors, and if it starts to go too lean or rich it shuts it off, plus it comes with the window switch (i think thats what its called) the program that only lets it spray between selected rpm's. maybe thats a good beginer it?

how would you build a motor for nitrous? i am planing on adding cams, gears, port and polish, and maybe forged internals down the road(when mine go bad)

the real bad backfire is called silent backfire. Its when detination happens when the piston is on the up stroke and it detonates to soon thats the one that bends a rod

as for the head nitro deal i was saying it doesnt hit as hard as in pull feel. U get the same amount of power but it doesnt feel like it pulls as hard im not saying it dont or that pi heads wouldnt help my car

as for psraying through the mass air its called a dry shot it reads off the nitro thinking its cold dence air and feeds more fuel to the car explain how this is a bad thing being that its how a dry shot works ??

and gears what i ment was i would go with 3:73 if u have a five speed that info was given to me from vernon house profab racing he has ran these cars for years so i take it he knows whats up some may have heard of him i dont know anyways he told me that if i went bigger in a 5 speed i would be in 5th gear autos at the track i go to mostly run 4:10 and 4:30 but i guess thats ur own choice of how much u drive the car daily.

So im sorry if u think im am an idiot but ive have had many 4.6 mustangs for the past 4 years and have yet to blow a motor or intake off

good info here....this is how i've come to understand everything as well....but i have seen people to run their dry shots through the mass air with great results...?

This is going to be my everyday driver. I put 17k mi on it since I bought her in june. I drive A LOT! I do a lot of driving over mt passes and such. I would just like to have an everyday runner that I can take to the track on special occasions and still be able to get something accomplished. Hence the NOS application. I'm really enjoying this thread, you guys are really sharp on this stuff.

i will be going with the nx wet kit 100 shot...window switch, wot switch, fuel pressure cut off, and a tune on my xcalII. i think this should be reliable in never causing a backfire....i hope!
