How much would the stock cam hold me back?

Proposed engine would have:

gt40 irons, mild port job
cobra intake with lower port matched to heads
1.7 RR
65mm 0r 70mm TB
shorty headers w/ off road H and flows

I was thinking of sticking with the stock cam for ease of the swap (I'm a real newbie and the cam swap looks to be one of the more complicated parts) to cut some costs and to keep streetability. But I am curious as to just how much it would be holding be back. Any ideas?

I'm hoping for 260RWHP.

The stock cam isn't a restriction until you get some really good flowing heads and look for power above 5500 RPM

if the engine is near 100K miles , do yourself a favor and atleast install a new timing set while you are doing the work , and my opinion is if you are going to tear it apart that far , you might as well put a cam in it unless you have speed density and just dont wanna mess with converting it to mass air ....

Don't port match the intake to the heads - won't gain you 1HP I'd venture to say..........now, after porting the heads or getting better flowing heads - then think about porting.....

stock cam would be ideal for that setup IMO

you might get a little more top end by switching to an e-cam, but id say you'll lose a little low end grunt as well

check out tmoss's setup, he's got basically the same thing with headers, his heads are prepped with ported intake running 277 at the wheels

btw- nice budget setup tmoss :nice:

:Word: :stupid:

A cam change isn't as hard as you think it is. You are right there with the rest of your mods anyway. Like everybody else said you won't gain anything by changing out the stock cam.
