how to adjust valves on 88GT

can anyone explain to me how to adjust my valves so they arent open all the time.

IE: making my car miss. Because the valve cant close from the rockers being too tight. But when i make them looser, they come loose and start to tick.

i have GT40X heads, E303 Cam, Cobra intake. With rockers that just bolt on, no set screw or ne thing.

i'm assuming you have pedestal mount heads...

the only way you can adjust these is with the FRPP shim kit. Basically you install shims of differing thicknesses underneath the rockers untill you get it right, or you get diff length pushrods.

not really, you just have to keep adding more shims till you get the correct height.

the roller tip (or sled if you have stock rockers) is centered on the top of the valve stem. These instructions are for stud mount but if you just look at the pictures of the valve stems at the bottom it will give you an idea.

would a vacumme leak cause the miss. I sprayed carb cleaner on the lower intake to upper intake and the idle went up.

If the idle increased when you sprayed the carb cleaner or TB cleaner around the gaskets, i.e. upper to lower, TB to EGR spacer, EGR spacer to upper then it sounds like you also have a vacuum leak. Go through and make sure that all the bolts are tight and to the proper torque specs.
