I need to buy an original fender for my '93 Cobra. I know that I need one from a '91-93 car. How do I tell the difference between these and earlier ones? Do I measure the bottom of the wheel opening? Or is the difference in the width of the fender (i.e., from the engine compartment to the outer edge)?

Thanks!

If its off the car then measure the opening at the middle of the opening. Measure the one from your car then take a tape measure with you and measure the one you are looking at. The other way is to ID the Vin number on the fenders. My 93 has this number all over the place.

I *heard* that the fender flares on the 91-93 fenders are the same size as the flares in rear, the earlier ones had smaller flares on the front. I have a 91 and all my flares are the same size, but I never paid close attention to a 79-90 fender to verify if its really true.

The easiest way to tell if there are no identifying marks is to look at the fender extension section that mounts to the front bumper. On the 90 and earlier cars the very bottom of the fender below the belt moulding is about 8-1/2". On the 91-93 cars the very bottom of the fender is noticably smaller than it is at the belt moulding, for sure under 8". I think it is like 7-1/2" or so.
