How to remove Hall/PIP sensor? Need help ASAP.

How do you remove the hall/pip sensor from the distributor? I've read that you have to remove the distributor gear. Is this true? If so, then why?

Please help this has me stumped and when I read that you had to remove the dis gear confused me even more.

Never done it myself, but I think you have to remove the gear, then slide the distributer shaft out to reach the PIP sensor.
Correct. It's a real PITA. The gear is pressed on the shaft. When you put it back together, make sure the holes the roll pin goes through are line up otherwise you'll be taking the gear back of to line it up again. Good luck.

Ok I took the dis. out and figured out how to do it. I guess I'll have to take it to my mechanic tomorrow and have it pressed off.

The reason I'm replacing the sensor is I have a no spark condition and there's no fuel on the plugs. Tests of the TFI module point to the hall sensor but my dad thinks its the coil. Is there a way to test either the coil, or the PIP?
Thanks guys.
