Hurt my car tonight... Need advice

Well carbon buildup increases compression.

Possable cenario (sp) ....you went WOT, the carbon buildup got to the point where it caused detination. the detination was minimal, but bent the plug...and also blew off a chunk of carbon when that happened that got cought in the valve on its way out (or possably on the inatke). Thus your problem.
I have seen some CRAZY stuff happen, and the above is VERY possasable lol. Hope it all works out as inexpencively as possable. :nice:

BUT I stand confedent that it wasnt caused by valve float.

Anyways see thats exactly why i dont want a S/C...this crap happens and your VERY lucky you engine didnt let go.

the spark plug could have been crushed from violent detonation. try putting another plug in before you pull the head.

or just go ahead and not even try the plug ( it would take a few minutes) and maybe waste thousands.

he speaks the truth - for your own peace of mind, try replacing the plug and see if the problem is fixed. Hmm, $3 or $1000+?? i wonder...

FYI...I have not read all the posts yet, but here goes...

Just curious, but was your car warmed up before you got on it?

Also, I'm not sure about the 99+ engines, but check the spark plug wires. I got on it the other day and a wire popped out of the plug and the car started misfiring on a cylinder.

^Yea that meth keeps your engine CLEAN! Well theres one thing you dont have to worry about lol.

Naw, im going the all N/A route :nice: thanks though....but I know it would be wicked fast witha S/C  . And im not against S/C, my 66 should have an intercooled novi 2000 on it by the end of this year or so  . We are going to have to build our own IC out of an open core you can buy in about any size....so that should be fun lol.

They did a full compression check on the engine. After pulling the plug that cylinder had very little compression at all so it is more than likely a bent valve. My mechanic is thinking what hotmustang331 said.... Carbon buildup caused detonation. Car was plenty warmed up when this happend. I had been driving the car for 15 minutes.

Did you see them do the test? I'd get a 2nd opinion as a shop could just be playing on your fears. If you had a bent valve, you would prolly have hardly ANY compression at all. Maybe not even enough to register.

Try the spark plug. They can go when pushed hard and the engine can still be fine.

If you really did bend a valve, upgrade your heads if you havn't already. The only way you "should" have been able to bend a valve is if you upgraded your cams and not your valve springs.

I've known this guy for a couple years now and he had worked on my old car several times. I've known a lot of other people who have gone to him and have nothing but good things to say about him so I'm pretty sure I can trust him. I am going after work today to see what the damage looks like. Depending on how bad the damage is I may rebuild the engine with a forged bottom end and some patriot heads. The car was already at about the limit of the stock internals so I might as well upgrade everything while its apart. I was looking for an excuse to go for more power and I think I've found it.:D

if there was metal to metal contact, take off your oil filter and cut it apart. Take a look at the filter and oil in it. That will be a sure sign of damage if their is metal in the oil filter.

Not sure why it would bend a valve at such a low RPM.

that is very possible to, In fact that happens a lot to the DOHC 3.0 taurus

but I was saying start small then go to the big stuff because you will feel :owned: if it was just the plug.

but after what I just read about him looking for a excuss to add power. this guy wants t get them heads off :)

I really hope you do have a good mechanic as a few good ones are avaliable, but I've caught so many mechanics in a bad diagnostic it's not even funny. I havn't been to a mechanic in years and I do my own work. The only time I take a car in is to have tires mounted. As of now, I have a winter and summer set, so I don't even give anyone my car anymore. I don't like anyone touching my ride but me.

You should try replacing one plug just to see if your mechanic was right or not. Cause most of them are not honest. Not to bash your shop, but I'd want to know one way or another. Even if you want to upgrade anyway. Just replace one spark plug and see what happens.

Well funny you mention a taurus lol, my sisters taurus had bad valves in it. We pulled them and poured some gas in the chambers...sure enough some of the intake valves were leaking. Showing about 50#s of compression in some cylinders and the cylinder wasnt hitting. But that was caused by my brother-in-law not draining the water from teh cylinders when it blew a head gasket...and it started rusting :nonono: . How did i get off on that:shrug: .

ANYWAYS LOL, I agree cheap and easy is the best way to start off in a situation like this...unless your apparently rich and dropping 7Gs on your engine doesnt bother you:shrug: .

Well I just found out some really bad news... The engine chipped a piston which bent the valves. I had a bad feeling that this may have occured since the spark plug was smashed. I guess I am going to go with a new longblock since both the top and bottom end have damage. What company(s) have the best longblocks for the money? I have looked at chp, livernois and dss. Are there any other companies I should consider?
