i jus came from hanging with my friends and heard the stuppid **** ever from a friend who is studying to become a mechanic... he told me in my stang it would cost me 15,000 to run a 12 sec time slip.. i think with that i could be in the 11s maybe 10s... so i made a bet with him that i could have a low 13's slip by next labor day... rite now i have stock engine.. all i did performance wise was a cat back.. this month im changing it to manual. so i will have a good clutch and shifter.. this winter im doing gears, 5 lug swap, rebuild axel.. and maybe a detroit loocker... what else could i do to get a 12.xxx run?

some suspension mods, including almost any brand of CAs, some SFCs are a must, 4 cyl springs in front, a good intake along with all bolt ons and slicks should get you in the 12s. or just slap a 500 dollar nitrous kit on and call it a day...

Almost any LCA's is bad advice. Havn't you seen all the threads about brands such as UPR or Granatelli turning out LCA's that break somewhat easily? When they break you are luck if significant damage isn't caused. I suggest maximum motorsports or steeda LCA's. If your cheap then Pro3i makes a much cheaper "copy" of the maximum motorsports piece. I have never had a problem with them and I have never heard of any problems with them.

Whats your budget. You can get to 12's with a few hundred bucks. It also depends on how you want to go about doing this.

Gears and traclock rebuild (parts and install) $400
GT40P heads 300 bucks
typhoon intake $250
pair of 10 holes $30
2 slicks to put on the 10 holes $300
O/R xpipe $150

With that youll run mid to high 12's. You can run alot faster then 10's with 15k

Or if you want to do this the cheap way

Gears and install $400
nitrous $500
slicks and 10holes $330

Look at the mods I have in my sig, everything else is stock and I have enough mph to run low 13's. Look at 25thmustang, few bolt ons and slicks and hes running 12.5 Your friend dosent know what hes talking about.

I run mac uppers and lowers (not a corner guy myself) with kyb shocks and BFG drag radials (275/40/17) Hooking is not a problem. Steel control arms are not really a weak link IMO..take alot of stress to break a boxed control arm.

well the 5lug is just because my buddy had all the parts already plus i like the look of the rims.. but i get to upgrade my axels which is a plus.. also i want to try to do this without nitrous..what suspension mods should i look into besides sfc?

Why even bother talking to ricers, it's just throwing a tire on the fire... They will talk smack for as long as they have rice-mobiles and will NEVER learn. BEst bet is to tell once, "you guys are so stupid, you all need to wear helmets, I'm going to hang with real men"...

wgpaintballer i know we've talked on AIM about this but check out the suspension mods in my sign....I finally got to drive my car this weekend....first time since the mods and the way the weight is transfered is unbelievable......it shoots out of the hole like nobodys buisness :nice:

Good lord....15k for 12s????????

Explorer/GT40P head long block, a good intake setup (either a good carb setup or good EFI), a good cam to match everything else and at least 3.73 gears with slicks and a 5 speed.

I've seen this combo go as deep as 12.50 in a coupe with a dialed in suspension w/air bag and 90/10s.

Total cost? Well that depends on the Explorer engine and weather you get all your parts new or if you take your time and look through some classifieds and get things cheap. We have a guy on our forums who has about 3k into his hatch and it's running high 10s right now, mainly because he got parts for cheap and because it's built right and with matching parts.

Oh, and if i can run low 14s with my busted ass bone stock '85 long block, then i guess it's going to take that 15k to shave off 2 more seconds huh? Well for 15k i have a PLETHORA of options...

1) all forged internal stroker...MAYBE 5k...which would leave another 10 for a nasty 300hp 2 stage nitrous system that would probably put me somewhere around high 9s.

2) the afore mentioned setup, plus the nitrous, or a supercharger, or turbo....bet yet how about a junkyard turbo? Here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2207793 is my buddy Chris's coupe....the car has had a bunch of recent changes but it's a basic junkyard turbo setup, making 533/611 and is pushing low 10s. Price? you wouldn't believe me if i told you...

what intake would you run with there head cam package....cobra and or gt40?

that looks like a pretty good deal...does anyone know what those heads are good to like if later on you wanted to put a power adder like a kb on it or turbo and stroke the block to 331. Would those heads be restricting in those conditions?

i have all of the sudden become very interested....that would be a hell of alot cheaper than a tfs top end kit.

You can get the stock intake ported by tmoss for a relatively small charge and get good results. I've got a dyno sheet somewhere that has results for several cars running Thumper heads and Tmoss ported stock intake and they are up around 250 rwhp. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

You can also use GT-40 intake or other aftermarket intake with good results, but obviously cost becomes a factor.

If you ever watch the "Pinks" tv show, a yellow fox with Thumper heads beat a red sn95. That car was almost into the 11's after a few initial passes with the new Thumper heads. I think he was running GT-40 intake and possibly GT-40P heads that were ported by Thumper.
