I did the copper pipe cap mod.

Saw a Lowe's on the way home and picked up 4, got them for 15c.. Installed it a few mins ago.. Only went for a trip around the block but the idle was awsome.. it did seem to drop quicker.. but i hammered it in first and then came to a stop and it almost died on me.. so when i got home i reved it up to about 4500 then let it drop and did the same thing.. (neighbor came out side after i reved it the 3rd time) Ill leave it in for about 2 more days to see if the comp will figure out what to do..

To all that say nothing happened.. did you reset your computer.. ?

I dont really see why this bothers everyone so much  . I like having it rev down as slow as it does. That way if I need to get back on the throttle quickly, I dont have to worry about taching it back up, the engine is already in the power band. I guess thats just me though.

I didn't have a -real- hanging idle before.. i liked the idle down.
but now, (after tb pipe) my idle HANGS when I shift. I'll clutch in, it'll hang at whatever RPM for like 3 seconds... and then it'll drop down.

it sounds like i'm just sitting and reving the engine at that rpm. :nonono:
i like the idle down, not the hanging idle.

Gotcha! Mine just slowly drops down, but doesnt hang. If I nail it up to 5000 or so then let off, its will drop down about 200rpm every second or so. It doesnt plumit, which I dont want, and it doesnt stick like yours did. Guess thats why Im happy with it :D. Im with you, I wouldnt like the hanging idle :nonono:

ya, I loved that, the gurgling on the idle down... but after the TB pipe my car is confused... hangs :(

Our computers are too smart. I used a 13/64 bit and when I first insalled the cap it dropped nice and had that pissed off crackle. After a few minutes, the RPM's dropped fine but the crackle stopped. I took the cap out, RPM's hung but crackeled than after a minute, stopped crackling. Put it back in and it did the same thing all over again. Main thing is RPM's drop quicker and it doesn't stall. Maybe I should try the AC on. Hmmmm...I have a vert, no need for AC...LOL

I ended up trying the copper cap fix for the hanging idle. I took the car (02 GT 5 Spd) into the daler, and they checked it out dismissing the throttle hang as normal. The did update the pcm with the latest update, but the throttle hang issue was still present.

For some reason or another, the car is fine on 1-2 shifts with very little hang. 2-3 a little more hang, and 3-4 is by far the most noticable hang. The really irritation is that not only does the throttle hang for a second, but with foot off accel, and clutch in, the rpm's would actually rise a little in between shifts.

I still feel as though a new/different IAC would make a little difference, but since the dealer would not replace it I figured I'd try the copper cap mod...

I picked up a couple of these, and started with a 1/4" opening. I did not reset the computer, and there was an immediate difference. The throttle no longer hangs, and the throttle drop now seems to fit what I am used to. I am assuming that since restricting the airflow reduces throttle hang, then maybe playing with the opening size would determine the speed at which the trottle drops.

For my 2 cents I'm pretty happy with the results. For the .15 that one of these caps costs, it is certainly worth trying even if it's just for "grins". If I notice any detrimental effects, I'll post again.

Thanks to all for their input...

I did this mod (1/2" copper pipe and 1/4" drilled hole) on my '99 GT w/ Procharger P-1SC & noted an immediate rpm response. Only problem is that now when slowing down from 1st or 2nd gear to a stop (and while in reverse) the motor really want to die similar to MPSnyper. Perhaps I need to drill a larger hole (?) Will keep you guys posted....

the hole in the pcv is right about 1/4"

so I see I dont have a problem, I thought it would decel faster when I rev it up, it revs down kind of slow, but no hang though

the surging idle from the compressor cycle made it horrible mod for me, w/hvac off it was ok

update.. i removed mine..

My car just seemed slow, like it took longer to go from stoplight to 50.. no grunt anymore.. and for some odd reason i started driving like a old person.. sound funny but its true.. no offense..

with it out my car just seems peppier..
