I love my stock gears....

Last week for vacation I took a 175 mile highway cruise up to the Oklahoma
mountains, fully loaded with 3 people. Running about 80 or 85 mph I got
24 mpg both ways and my car is automatic. I usually get about 19mpg
around town. I know some of you get better than that but with 5 speeds.
Anyway its got to be those stock 327's. At 85 mph there is still a lot of headroom.
You people with 410's are no match from 85 mph on up!

Speaking of gears. I'm happy with my 3.27s right now but I think eventually 3.55s... Not too sure about even going to 3.73.

I love my stock gears, I love having a huge 2nd gear, and personally, I've always liked cruising at like 75 mph and lil over 2k rpm. My GSR integra did 4k at 80mph drove me nuts.

Yea the protege I used to drive would be doing 3,000rpm at only 70mph. Just feels like the thing is overworking on long trips. On occassion I'll leave the stang in 4th up till around 55 - 60mph for little ways and its nice how easy it rolls off the throttle, but cruising at 2500 - 2600rpm can get old. I'd hate wanting to go 75-80mph and having to cruise at 2500+ rpm and not being able to do anything about it.

I got 25.1 MPG @ 70-75 on the way back from GA...and that was with a shrot blast in 2nd.

Dont fear the gears! BTW my exhaust becomes almost SILENT @ 72-75...it gets in some range where with the windows up and everything off, you can just barely make out the faint sound of the engine LOL.

I get 20mpg on the highway but some of that is stop and go. Just a steady 300 mile shot I can probably get it into the 22mpg range. All taht and still have you seeing my tailights from the stoplight. :SNSign:

Well I love my 4.10 ... averaged 22.5-22.8 on my last trip from charlotte to daytona .... and I def. got on it a few times and made it back in 7 hours .. haha .. In the end .. the gear's pro's over rule the cons !!!

I did 23-24 on my last hiway trip 80mph all the way 4.10's, ported heads cams and LT's.

I get around 22MPG when i go on long highway trips while getting on it, and thats with m 3.73's and getting on it alot. Since i go with some friends and there is always dicking around going on. If it was just me i could pull 25 prob.

yea with my 3.73s I average 24mpg with most of it highway driving. And that is driving from 75-80mph with an occasional WOT run at a stop light lol. With stock gears i was almost gettin 27mpg with my mods lol. I think teh factory said 24mpg highway is what im suppose to get and heck im doing that with mods and gears.

The last time I went to ATL I got 24mpg running 80 the entire way. But with stock gears I got 26mpg going 85-90.
