This may not be the correct place to ask these questions but I figure that a mustang guy/gal is most likely to try the things I have questions about. I just purchased a 1988 T-Turbo coupe to use for parts in a swap (old Falcon). I am putting a 2.3 in (carbed) until I get the coupe apart. First

1. I have a ranger header and was wondering what thread the exhaust return fitting was or how anyone has plugged this? I know the O2 sensor hole is 18MM so I just need the other one. Ranger header until turbo.

2. When I take the engine out of the Tbird what parts of the harness should I get. What things on the motor can I get rid of (Air pump etc.) to install it in a non emissions non efi, pretty much non everything car.

3. The rear end doesnt look like the other 8.8's I have? is it not an 8.8? Everything I have read says it should be. I had also read that you can remove the timing wheel for the anti lock breaks replace the axles and make it narrower. Any idea what I am talking about? Anyone know where I can get an exploded view of the rear?

Thank you, Neil

This should be fun if I have a clue or two.

1. Assuming you mean the EGR fitting- I'm not entirely sure. On the turbo engine manifolds it was 1/2" NPT, but I don't know if the Ranger header is the same. Maybe someone that has messed with one will chime in.

2. Not sure on the harness question...you may have to consult with Turboford on that one. I've heard a Merkur harness is better for a turbo swap into an older car. As far as accessories...there isn't much on the 2.3 Turbo that you can get rid of. Assuming the TC was an AC car, the only accessories on the engine will be the AC compressor, alternator, and PS pump.

3. Not sure what you mean about the rear axle. If it's an '88 TC and it's still four lug and rear disc, the axle should be an 8.8. Oh, and the axle is wider because of the disc brakes themselves...it really doesn't have anything to do with the ABS.
