Hey guys,

I am still working on getting my 2000 explore long block in my 87 gt. well, i am getting it ready for install and took it off the engine stand and on the hoist. i used a header bolt on both sides to support the engine. it was holding fine but i started doing some research and it seems a lot of people use the holes in the front and back of the heads.
so, i figured the header bolt holes were not good and i would switch it. so i took the slack i had in the chain and put it through a strong graded bolt(i forget what grade but it was one of the ones i used to mount the engine to the engine stand). when i took the header bolt holding the chain out the weight of the engine fell on the new bolts holding the chaing in the back of the heads.

nothing happened, but i am concerned i weakened something. i would hate to start lifting my engine and and rip the heads out.

of course, after i did this i realized it was not the smartest thing to do but i could not think of any other way to switch the chain mounting bolt location. i am new to all of this and learning as i go.

do you guys think i messed anything up? please go easy on me if not i hope to get this thing in this weekend

thanks for the help,

Did it fall to the floor, or just take out slack and fall, catching itself on the chains to the front and back of the heads? If the latter and the bolts didn't pull out and strip, you're fine. Remember, your heads are containing explosions, a little tug on the head isn't going to hurt it.

Thanks, it did not fall to the floor. It did the later, catcing its self on the chains in the front and back of the heads.

Thanks for the help!

pull the bolts and look at them? The shaft that was out of the threads may be bent, but thats ok.

Troof. You are fine as long as you can back the bolts back out.
