Can anyone identify the vacuum line in my picture.

Comes off the block at the firewall on passenger side and then goes through an opening in the fender wall. While chasing potential areas for my future smoke leak test I found this vacuum line totally broken.

Where will I find the remainder of the line which is inside the fender somewhere?
I've looked over the diagram http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/tech/engine/images/mustangFoxFordVacuumDiagram.jpg which always gets posted.

That's part of the HVAC vacuum system. The part you're pointing at is a check valve. The horizontal line is the vacuum intake; it should run over to the vacuum tree over by the brake master cylinder. One of the two vertical lines runs into the HVAC system and powers the controls in the car, while the other goes to a vacuum reserve canister so the HVAC continues to work when engine vacuum is low. If I remember correctly, the canister is in the fender, so that may be what you're looking for.

If something's not right with those lines, your HVAC will be flaky. In my case, the line to the vacuum tree was broken or cut clean through, and I couldn't get air to blow through anything but the defroster vents. Replacing that line fixed it, though it's still a bit flaky. I suspect I have other issues, possibly with the vacuum canister or blower motor, but my project has bigger fish to fry.

I went after this because the car stalled at idle when cold. Still does, but it can stay running after only about 30 seconds of warming up, as opposed to several minutes before fixing the line. So, an improvement.

Thanks,

My HVAC works pretty well. Only issue I notice is that A/C causes the temp gauge to climb steadily. Probably a ground somewhere and not a true heat problem.

Good to know that my broken line from above is not giving me the intermittent CEL I get.
Looks like my car will be enjoying a couple cheap gas station cigars tomorrow.
