It's a 1990 lx 5spd, new brakes, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, plugs, wires distributor cap and rotor, new timing belt, battery, hoses, new radiator and heater core, alternator, new exhaust, trans bracket, new tires, new clutch and pressure plate, new cable linkage, new rear springs, and shocks, and a rebuilt tranny. The car has 167,000 on it, and has only minor rust on the hatch. If i get this car, i will buy a 2.3t and swap it, but what do they come out of, and what will i need? Is this too much guys?

I had a 90 Lx very like that one that I got $1800 out of. So its sounds like a pretty good deal to me and I'm very cheap.

I just didn't want to pay too much. It will be a project car in about 2 months but for now just some wheels, lowering springs, intake, and an exhaust. It's gonna be a big ole' turd for a little while but if you guys think its a good deal, i will buy it and swap in the 2.3t. How much have some of you paid?

for a car? or for a swap?

I paid more for the swap then the car. Thats easy to do when the car was $75.

I gave $150 for complete engine.
$50 for a computer & Vane Air Meter.
$180 for new clutch/flywheel.
Most everything else can be adjusted or made to work. Those are the important things to get it up and running.

I would suggest not spending time or money putting an exhaust on it before you do a turbo swap. You'll more than likely have to do it all over again. Heck, I waited until I swapped, and I've still redone my whole exhaust system 3 times (party from poor initial planning, and also from making changes in my setup). Don't forget to look at the big picture.

I decided to pass on this car, i got underneath it and there is a 4inch rust hole in the back of the passenger side floorboard by the rear seat bolt, you can see the carpet. Plus there was a weak spot in the frame from rust on the rear drivers side framerail?! I am gonna look for one with a lot less miles, so i can have a nice body to swap in the 2.3t. What is a good paying price for one with about 70,000 on it?

those cars are only worth 1300.

heh, I got rust in the exact same spot. No hole yet but I'm gonna be watching it, and burying it in obscene amounts of undercoat.

You can always find a shockingly good deal if you keep your eyes open and stay patient.

I'm thinking of looking for a notchback, but i'm not sure. I just sold my 5.0 hatchback(i have yet to change my sig) And i like the way they look, but i've seen some very sick notches . Does anyone on here have a 2.3t notch with pics? I have 4500 bucks to spend on a car but i want to get something cheap, so i can use the money for mods, thats why i'm looking for a 2.3 mustang. They are cheap, and you guys give me all the inspiration you'd ever need.

$4500? Damn man, find yourself a clean Fox, and you're set! That is more than enough money to build yourself a great engine. I've spent about $2500 on everything for my swap, but thats because I bought everything new, and bought lots of expensive brand-name stuff. I also got screwed when I bought the first engine (bad block and head).

are we talking about a 4 banger or 5.0? because even a high mileage 5.0 mustang is worth way more than $1500. if its a 4 banger thats a rip off. i coulda bought a 89 Notch 2.3l stang for $400 with a mint body. I see plenty 4 bangers around here $400-$500. I dont see how a slow 4 banger stang is worth more than a grand.

2.3s are more wanted than 5.0s, here its ass amounts of cash for a decent 2.3 and its 200-500 bucks for 5.0s CAUSE THERE EVERYWHERE!!!

2.3 fox cars have not been tortured the way a 5.0 was. Just about every 5.0 I have seen has a twisted roof and buckeled floors. The 2.3 in stock form cant do that on its best day. IMHO if you are doing a engine swap look for a clean 2.3.

furthermore you can find decent svo's for 3-4k. and the work is already done.

I may get flamed for this but if I had 1500.00 I would just buy a 5.0 Exspecaily if you are going to turn around and buy a 2.3T to swap into it. I have a friend who bought a kinda of rough 5.0 coupe for 1800.00 that runs 13.33 all day long.
