I'm planning this motor for my 66 'vert. Car will be street driven, never raced. http://www.performanceparts.ford.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=5163

I've been getting conflicting opinions on whether my 8 inch rear is enough. I will be running an AOD and likely a 3.55 with trac-loc. Thanks in advance for all responses.

Your 8" should be fine, check all the bearings and put a 31 spline in it and you'll be good for 400 hp. The guys at Ford Muscle were using a 67 car with a 331 stroked 302 that made 400hp with a t5 and an 8" behind it, they raced it for a while, they were launching from 3500-5000rpm with slicks and they finally managed to snap the stock axles, so they got hardened axles and now they are fine. so your 350lb of torque shouldn't give the 8" a problem unless you get a race torque converter, launch insainley on slicks and abuse it, other than that your fine.

I've put a hurting on mine for a while with no problem. That's icluding nitrous abuse. Although never with slicks. With that said I would have to say Josh69stang is right and I second it. Great traction seeks out weak axles.
