I am extremely new to the Mustang front and have tried to do some research but am unsuccessful thus far in finding some of my questions. I plan on putting a cam (very small one) in a 90 LX 5.0. I don't want to have to really change anything (heads, etc...) though. I know I'll need new springs but what cam would fit this idea. I'm not looking for dramatic gains as I know I won't be getting them. The car is bone stock but exhaust is going to be ordered here in about a month or so.

It's a money issue/reliability issue/daily driver issu. I love the sound that cams make, even small ones above the stock cam. I had a friend with a 91 GT with a small cam and stock heads that sounded great and that is what I'm looking for. It is my daily driver in the summer so I really want to not give up reliability or completly kill gas mileage. I have a person that will put it in for me free of charge (minus a case of beer) so I am already saving some money. I was thinking maybe waiting for a while but decided that this is what I want to do and soon headers will be on with o/r H pipe and undecided exhaust but I think with that combo it would sound mean as hell. Thanks guys for all input thus far.

Waste of good beer and the money for the parts IMO.
You are set on doing a cam, probably no one on this board will be able to talk you out of it, even if it is not the right decision.
Noise does not equal fast!

The stock cam in the 5.0 is a very powerful piece. If you had heads, intake and exhaust, Id be all over a cam swap.

Get the exhaust done (LT's and midpipe) then you won't find the need for a cam as the car will sound MUCH better..adding a cam takes some decent wrench turning, can cause some idle problems, and the cost/gain factor on a stock engine is not all that hot. Get yourself the exhaust and some 1.7RR's and enjoy the gain you'll get.
