is this the ignition control switch?

Disclaimer: I'm not a photographer.

i decided to attempt to locate it today since i've never seen one and i assumed it was the thing in the picture since it had a bunch of wires, plugged in and was near the ignition.

(yes, i picked a bad color for an arrow.)

when i popped out the above piece, the following piece dropped out and i didnt see if it came from inside the above piece or if it was beside it and came out because my and bumped it.

Ha, you really aren't a photographer. Sorry I can't answer your question, but I think if you'd get that camera to focus you'll get an answer faster.

'88 and i've tried searching for an '88 Ford Mustang ignition control switch' but nothing comes up. i tried ignition control switch and i get things that look like my black piece but with 2 prongs to plug in or i either get a rod looking deal.

The pic with the squiggly arrow pointing to it is your ignition switch ($10 at Autozone). I have no idea what the other fuzzy thing is!

Not sure what that is, However, If your camera Has a Macro Setting (usually a button with a flower symbol on it) Use it, and you pics should be in focus. Might help get your answers quicker.

What are you looking to do?

The ignition switch itself is on top of the steering column, about under the dash. You have to drop the column down to get to it. It is operated by a rod that is moved by a rack and pinion gear connected to the end of the key cylinder.

It is adjustable by the two mounting bolts and is slotted. If its out of adjustment it will do funny things.

As noted, they are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.

If is usually called the ignition switch, not the ignition control switch. Or, I have no idea what an ignition control switch is.....

Yes, you need a new ignition switch. The arrowed pic is the broken/seperated switch. The other pic are of the switch contact slider which fell out of the switch. The white section is supposed to be crimped into the aluminum housing with the black contacts inside to transfer current to the appropriate terminals.

I've put one of those back together before and re-crimped it and it still works. But they are silly cheap, so get a new one, and don't even think of listening to me.

lol i check this after we get it back together to find that someone posted. we were experimenting and found out that the black piece came off of the white piece. we put 2 and 2 together and got it sliding on the rod correctly, now it starts without the hot-wire.

next thing on the "to-do" list is getting a new washer-fluid container and putting the fender back on. 1 step closer to being ready to do a 2.3T swap.
