Is This The Stock Filter Assembly?

Thanks. Just ordered it. The previous owner had a very old K&N conical filter on there. It was DIRTY. I cleaned it with the recharge kit and after all the dirt was off I could see the filter was totally shot. I wanted to back to stock anyways on this car so I wasnt gonna spend alot on a new K&N. I had a cone filter on my 96 gt years ago. It never got anywhere near as beat up as this one did. It must have been 10 years old and probably not cleaned in the past 5 years. How long do they typically last?

I can't get over the $50 for the stock filter assembly...wow. Makes me wonder if mine is out in the garage somewhere.... I used the same K&N filter for years, well over a 100,000 miles, on my 89 Mustang without issue (I cleaned it several times). You're supposed to clean them every 30-50K miles, but of course it depends on how much dust, etc. you drive through. They could need it much sooner.

yup, salvage yard quoted me $70 for the filter assembly and $20 for distributor boot. Plus $15 shipping. It can be found cheaper on ebay. When I sold my 96 gt I gave the buyer all the original parts too. He looked at me like I was nuts. I think the Fox bodies are the next generation of collecitble. Sure, they made a few million of them. But very very few survied in good or near stock condition. It is a good idea to hold onto those stock parts. I just spent the last few months finding this latest project. It seems like these cars follow a very predictable path. In my case, I pulled an autocheck report and saw the first two owners put on very few miles over a 12 year period. Over the last 8 years it got into the hands of a couple of owners that just let it go. They felt that headers and gears etc were more important then door hinges and convertible tops without holes. I paid 3k for it and already rebuilt the entire suspension back to stock (with some tubular control arms and subframe connectors). A full day of clay bar and meguiars ultimate compound has the paint looking much much much better. Gonna follow up with swirl x and some good wax. It just amazes me that the previous owner didnt try something like this before selling it. It makes the car look a hell of alot better.

I came close to selling my 89 a couple years ago, and then decided to keep it and get more radical with it. Not sure that was the best move, but it's done now.... Sounds like I could get more for the original parts I took off than for the whole car! I know the distributor boot is out there somewhere, and I think the air box is, and the EGR stuff, and .... Good luck with your 92, I've had 4 foxes, and they are great cars, and economical at the same time.

I really like the stock box and tube. Wayyyy better than the CAI that was already on the car. I traded my CAI for the stock stuff from a buddy. Cleaned it up and put on a new Motorcraft decal. BTW, a few months ago Ford had new OEM distributor covers; I paid around $15 from my local dealer.

Wow, Reefblue, that looks great. I wish mine was that clean. I have what I believe is an explorer intake on there now. What is the easiest way to tell the difference? If it was in good shape I would leave it but it is really beat up. Considering picking up a stock one and painting it. The liner on your hood looks great too. Mine was so ripped and tattered that I removed it. Anyone know where I can pick a new one up?

Awesome. Ill put that on the laundry list of things I need. I got the stock air filter assembly on yesterday. I really like the way it looks. Now I need that liner and distributor boot. My intake cleaned up really well. Except for the cover plate. If I cant find a cheap replacement I,ll jsut paint it black and then sand it down as some others have done to keep stock look.
