Not yet, I have to adjust some rockers. I'll let you know if it swells enough to rub. I think if it does though I'll have enough play that I can hammer it a little more to make it stop. If these where slicks there would be no way. I've seen guys with less room inside and more hp not rub though.
 
I think it sucks that all you or a few get all bent because somebody wants to try something different."your contact patch,your sidewall bulge" whatever :rolleyes: .If he or anybody else wants to try it,let em.Someone got all pissed when they got knocked but its okay to tell him,"its not gonna work" or its gonna look stupid. :shrug:

I looked at this a while back, based on iskwezm putting 275 on an 8" rim and one other guy with a late model on his avatar, forget right now. What it came down to is this, feel free to correct me with your observations:

-wide tire on skinny rim will work, but what you will feel is a slower turn-in to the turn as the rim moves over the tire. That's the downside, most people want a quick turn-in.

-More rubber on the road means more ultimate traction. Faster launches, more G's around turns.

-If you were in a slalom, you would want wide rims with relatively vertical sidewalls, no bulge - you would be transitioning side to side so much.

Feel free to comment on these observations. I'm not judging, just saying what the benefits and disadvantages are from what I've been reading.
 
70vert, I agree, but for dragracing (what I think the original poster's intentions are) big bulgy sidewalls are great as they allow the tyre to deform and absorb shocks from the drivetrain, and so maintain traction.

Although too wide tyres on a rim is asking for trouble imo, if used on the street.
 
Its mainly a drag car weekend warrior. I would never run this setup on a open course or whatever as I think if I tried hard turns on them they MIGHT roll like 70vert said through his research but would they roll over enough to be dangerous, probably not. The smallest recommended rim for this tire from bfg's website is 7.5 so I'm a half inch off on that but I can't count the number of people running tires that are 1-2 inches bigger than the smallest recommended rim for them at the track with way more hp than my car.

It doesn't really matter I just wanted to post that I did it, it can be done and what mods I did to do it.

If it just swells in height I'll have pleanty of room. My only concern is that I do drive it on the street but I don't drive it mach 3 around curves. For one I have skinnys up front and they really don't like that much :D secondly I just don't want to take the chance with my car so I take it easy around sharp curves. So hopefully it won't lean into the inner fender.
 
Oh yeh when I was researching wheels and tyres I noticed people are running tyres bigger than the recommendations I found on BGF and goodyear sites, and they didn't look all that odd. Heck my little 13" wheels have 235s on 7" width and I think it looks lovely.
 
sounds like you did the right thing, then

you got lots of rubber on the road, there's very little "cupping" from your measurement, and that little bulge in the sidewall isn't a bad thing for drag-style launches. So I'd have to say :nice: :hail2: :nice: sounds like you'll hook up real good with that setup, and congrats for pushing the boundaries - I wanted to prove everybody wrong and get 275s on the front of a '70 but no way - I tried my rear 275s on the front first just for giggles and there was no way it would work without basically adding fender flares.
