I just got rid of my 02 GT for a 04 Mach 1 with 35k.. Im not sure where to start. Its completly stock except for a Flowmaster catback.. not too crazy about it going from all Pypes however itll do for now. I already bought the O/R X, and im def thinking JLT ram air next. Which i had on my GT and i liked very much. Where should i go next? seems like low end is a little sluggish. I already have a X3/SF3 Tuner for it. Thanks for any input or help!

Get some gears to fix that lack of low end power...

Put up some pictures and quit teasing.

What color? 4.10's and then long tube headers probably. Headers with your other mods would put you at about 320RWHP. Get some full length subframe connectors. The factory ones are weak. An aftermarket shifter if it's still the stock one. I think I'd drain the transmission and rear end and put in new fluid unless it was for sure done recently. Belts and hoses too probably. Nice low mileage find.

How come u didn't swap your exhaust from your '02 GT to your Mach? That's what I did...or didn't you have your stock stuff any more?

Nice ride btw.

Nice car mate but man I have to ask. Honest opinion and difference between your bolt on 02 and stock (ish) new mach 1? Not just the performance but the whole `feel` of the thing?

I`ve been wondering if it would be worth the big cash trade where I am (UK) for me to sell my 20k mile mint 2003 GT and buy a same age condition mach1 . It would cost me , in US dollars about $7000-8000. Is it worth it?
Mind that Mustangs are rare as rocking horse $hit over here so they don`t come up often.

What are your first impressions of the Mach compared to the GT? Is it a huge difference?

Right off the bat a 5 spd Mach has I'm guessing at least 50 more rwhp to play with but you'll notice the biggest difference in 3rd gear, I had a bolt on 5 spd '02 GT (my first Stang) with 4.10s and that felt pretty close down low to my brand new stock Mach, but when the GTs fall flat in 3rd the Mach keeps going...plus there are few more RPMs in each gear to play with because of the DOHC.

^ interesting to hear you say that Catman because I feel the same way about my car now that I have cams. 1st and 2nd don't seem any different, but in 3rd gear she's a freaking animal compared to before the cams!!!

I went from an 02GT w/ 4.10s and other minor bolt-ons to an 04 Mach 1 with stock gears and full exhaust with LTs. To me it's a different animal, the GT had more kick in the a** low in the RPM band but that can be corrected in the mach with steeper gears. But the power band of the Mach is so much better than the GT IMO. Also the fit and feel of the mach just seems nicer as well. Plus being able to rev to 7k is an awesome feeling, it just screams with full exhaust at that RPM.

Like TruBlue said, there is nothing like the sound of a DOHC with full exhaust at WOT.

I think generally fit and finish is the same in a GT as it is in a Mach, but that's just me...some panels don't quite line up correctly, the orange peel paint (really a Ford issue) and all the little issues that go a log with a fox based chassy are apparent in both cars.

I just remember 3rd gear is generally where LS1s would pull away when compared to PI GTs.

That's one way to fix it.

You should ride in my cammed Mach...it feels like Fast and Furious when they hit the nitrous button once I go past 4000 RPMs...without all the gheyness of course

I need gears though big time, stock 3.55s just don't cut it, I'm stepping up to 4.30s at some point.

It would be a seriously begrudged sale for sure and if the truth be told it was just an idea. The Machs are the ones to keep though seeing as they`re rare and that.
I`ve read a couple of times that allegedly 2002 on GTs had bigger injectors than the 99, 00 and 01s and a slightly different cam profile and a slight bump in compression but it was never publicised by Ford and as such the factory figures remained 260hp. This was seemingly due to the 1999 Cobra problem when they did not make the factory claimed output. It was only a few hp and nothing to get excited about.
Like I say dont` shoot the messenger but I`ve read that on a couple of places inlcuding the blue oval I think. It was a while ago.

Back to the mach 1. Seems like it`ll be a car that`ll eventually appreciate in value if kept long enough. I like em. definately different.

I bet that mach is an animal... I'm really loving the low/mid grunt with my new cams. Makes it really fun to drive on the street.

That's where most of the fun is around town anyway.

Yeah, pretty much the mach with the catback feels like my 02 with all the parts listed below. I cant wait to start modding!! I didnt swap the parts cause i had no stock parts If anyone knows anyone i only want 400 for all 4 Mach rims, theyre like brand new. Im going to put black bullits 10.5 in the back 9 up front. The car overall feels great though, gotta love staring at the shaker! lol

You ever think of these?

Deep Dish Mach 1 wheels

They were just re-released, I've been pondering them and they've been on back order for years, they'd be awesome with a 315/35/17 tire out back. But I need to lower my car also.

This is kinda off topic but not really: I was reading these post and the ones that talk about the sluggishness in 3rd and 4th gears on the regular GT's caught my eye. I recently bought an 01 bullitt and I've noticed that in 1st and 2nd gears it seems kinda sluggish, but once I shift to 3rd and the rpms get about 3 grand the thing pulls like there is not tomorrow- same thing in 4th gear. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the bullitt have the SOHC 4.6 with the cobra intake and throttle body? Would this be the reason it pulls so hard at higher RPM's compared to the basic GT? I also read in this thread about swapping the gears. I understand that will compensate for the sluggish 1st and 2nd, but would that also take away from the top end??

btw: congrats on the mach 1 purchase!!! I had the opportunity to get an 04 mach 1 but settled for the bullitt cause it was $4,000 less.
