Get some subframes

They will stiffen the unibody up nicely and the overall feel of the car will be much tighter...I have some maximum motorsport subframes and I love 'em...

How much HP do sub frames give you. Gears are the bomb for speed but once you start modding, You have to add this, or that, or maybe a couple of those. Before warned of the snake too. That f-er bit my as$ bad!

Subframe connectors don't give you a gain in horsepower...they are there just to stiffen up your chassis and reduce flex...potentially helping you launch more evenly and handle with less roll or flex while improving the overall car feel...they are cheap (usually a bit over $100) and if you have access to a car lift (where the tires are planted) and a welder they can be installed...

What if he doesn't race, what do sub frames help. Maybe he just wants a good acceleration like I do. I have modded everything else and skipped the subframes until I am ready for the track. Then I will put on a pair of subframes.

If you have a ragtop and no subframes you will not beleive the difference!! My 87 (not as stiff as your 95) felt like a piece of semi boiled spaghetti before now feels rock solid just like the notch!

4dstang - The 94/95 body style has a redesigned floor-plan, revised front crossmember, X-brace stiffening structure placed underneath the oil pan...even though the front suspension is still the MacPherson strut style unit the geometry and mounting bolts were revised also...along with the different spindles. The front crossmember was moved up slightly and the control arms are a bit longer and larger boxed sections were made into roof rails and rocker panels to help any kind of flexing problem...and with all this and some other slight changes the body is 56% stronger in the bending aspect and 44% stiffer in the torsion area than the foxbodied platform...so therefore the subframes aren't near as "needed" as on our foxes...

The subframes on your car (though a very cost affective mod) aren't as noticeable compared to our 25yr. old uni-body platform (1979)...

Your car is much stiffer overall than the foxes and therefore doesn't have the same ratio of benefit as the foxbodys...

Stangs are unibody constrution. Even just getting on it hard on the street can bend the unibody.
A hatch I looked at before I bought my notch had a twisted unibody.

Thanks for the responses!

I'm not planning to make a race car out of it, just a nice street car with power when I need it I'm now thinking about subframes and the MAC cat-back or Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back. I wish I could afford the Bassani one! So, say a Performer manifold is a waste at this time? Overall I would like to do the H/C/I combo for this car.

Subframe connectors may be a great mod but there are tons of great mods. In fact you can go bankrupt putting on mods and then have someone in a daze smash into your car and then subframes are moot. At least after a crash I can take out all my power adders before the ins co gets the car.

But do what you want. I spent my money on TB, Mass, gears, exhaust, shifter, tires, wheels, paint, but no subframes yet. It's at the bottom of the list. Heck, I don't even know anyone who would weld in subframes around here, I sure can't.

Well in a wreck the power adders can be damaged to (frontal crash) Subframes probably would have a better chance...

I loved my Mac catback on my 2000 Gt...(different exhaust note though)...but the Mac sounds awesome on the 5.0L's also...and it would make you different then everybody (like me) with flowmasters...and the chrome tips look good

A Performer is not a waste right now...but that is if you get a bigger MAF and TB...I have the Performer for my h/c/i combo I did (best to do it all at one time to save "down-time"...) The Performer is a good all around street intake that supports a custom cam and AFR 165's

Congrats on the gears! They truly do wake up a car. We did 4.30's two months ago on mine and I'm still in heaven.

As for your next mods, I'd get some good subframe connectors and rear upper/lower control arms to stiffen up everything and prepare the car for what's to come. It's not fun or exciting buying these parts (especially because you can't see or hear them) but believe me, you're going to need them.
