I just installed my JLT CAI and WOW! I didn't think I would notice any difference seat of the pants wise, but I did. It really looks great and brought on some sotp power. The RPM's climb much faster and my stang seems to be idling much smoother. I've always heard that the stock air box with a K&N panel filter was a pretty good set-up, and it probably was. However, it doesn't compare to what I've got now. There are some fitament issues that I have to work out, but it seems to be staying on there. I'll have to keep my eye on the connection to the throttle body since it doesn't appear to be real solid. Right now I've got my stock throttle body and it requires an adapter since the opening is so small. So they supply you with a thick rubber adapter that slides over the TB to increase its diameter. The upper elbow then pulls over the TB with the adapter on it. It's rubber on rubber so its pulling. When I install my Edelbrock RPM II intake and 70mm TB I should be good.

how much did it cost and where did you get it from? When i dyno'd my car i picked up 6 rwhp when i pulled the air filter, so i bet a CAI (or anything on the intake side) would help

My stock box/K&N filter fed 320RW with more than enough air flow to feed even more power....dyno run can be found in sig. You only gain HP when you free up a restriction in the setup...the stock box K&N filter will undoubtedly feed your current setup without any issues...your 'gain' is placebo, sorry. Your real restriction is the TB.

Not trying to undermine your post, but I've dynoed my HCI set up with both the stock setup and a free flow setup, you can't denie the results...air flow was not an issue and pulls the air from the exact same location as the aftermarket CAI's.

TB and heads restrict flow....the box/filter will feed up to 350 to the wheels...since the JLT system does not offer a 'forced' induction benefit your not going to see any advantage. Once the HP exceeds the air flow of the stock inlet you will need to look at upgrades such as the anderson power pipe with it's larger dia. This however should be noted is only proven on the fox setups...I can't attest to restrictions in other model setups.

To add...the air/fuel ratio was also far more stable with the stock box setup for the maf and with that much easier to tune for my dyno tune.

The only thing I've heard that might disagree with your argument is that the corrugated flex pipe on the factory setup disrupts airflow stability, resulting in a reduction of flow and velocity. I've also heard the increase in filter area on a CAI helps things a bit.

That being said, though, if you have dyno-proven evidence, you can't be any more legit than that!

I want to say I've seen (magazine) dyno results myself in the interest of no air silencer + K&N panel VS CAI. I'll have to see if I can dig them up at home...

I've read all the same stuff, if not more. I'm just here to tell you that I felt a positive difference when expecting none. Thanks for the two cents though.

I had some fitment issues as well regarding the throttle body. I had to use a peiece of pvc piping approx. 1" wide to go around the mouth of my 75mm TB so that the provided rubber coupler would really seal on it. Other than no problems. It was a real PITA to get the rubber tubing on the pipe as I had o both microwave them and soap them up.

Looks way better than stock but i like the Anderson stuff better. Forgive me for not reading everything but is this gain vs. a stock air box setup?

I put a simple K+N cone filter on my Merkur, replacing the stock box and it was ridiculous how much it improved...i would honestly compare the seat of the pants gain to an intake swap. It's a little different since mine's turbo but i wouldn't be surprised since most aftermarket intake boxes are designed for quiet operation and ease of service.

These pics are a bit better. And I recant. I do like the JLT and the pics dont do it justice. I didn't buy the Anderson due to price and the fact I was gonna have to make another huge hole in the fender.

OK, I found the article I was thinking about. Hot Rod Magazine built up a 5.0L engine a while back, and dyno tested it after each progressive step during the build. While the engine was sitting on a dyno stand, and not in the car, they used original intake ducting and air filter box for baseline pulls. To make a long story short, just swapping the air filter box for a cone filter netted them +5hp, and then following that they swapped to a C&L "TrueFlow" intake tube and 76mm MAF for +10hp and +8ft-lb.

I personally think the JLT is the best looking setup available for most cars/trucks including the fox. I only wish I would of had the idea to built them before they did.
