Progress Thread Komo's 1990 GT - Parts Gathering Purgatory & Home Remodel

I have the same ones with the 250lb springs. I think you'll really like the ride. Seems really flat around the curves but not too rough over bad roads, which is all we have here....

Close your hood slow the first time. Mine were too tall and touched the hood. Just needed to shim some more until they cleared.

Well if I’m being honest with myself I won’t be able to install these before the move coming early January. So I didn’t want parts just flinging around and getting lost so I cut some PVC pipe to use as ‘spacers’ so I can keep everything on nice and snug:

By shim you mean moving around spacers above and below the strut tower to get it to work right?

Good call. I used those uppers. The tool works really good. Just read the directions a few times. It's a simple tool, but the way they word the instructions they make it sound more confusing than it is. At least that's what I thought when I read them.

The panhard bar really made my car feel a bunch better. The exhaust fitting with it is the "X" factor. Hopefully yours fits.

I’ve watched a video on MMs site for installing the uppers and the one thing I took away from it was to slather the hell out of the bolt with antisieze

At least directly from MM...
No hard feelings, I definitely got annoyed, but oh well. They came through on the steering shaft which was the most important piece I needed. Everything else was just ‘wants’. In the end everything worked out… and they will continue be my go-to for suspension parts.

Lesson learned though… don’t start a project till you have all the parts to do it!

Someone mentioned rack limiters in another thread and it sparked my memory… I never transferred over any rack limiters from my stock fox rack. I did see limiters on the New Edge rack when I swapped the inner tie rods… but it begs the question, are they the right ones?

So if your tires don't rub then they are the right ones....:nice:

Seriously though that is the only way I know to tell. Did you send your rack back for a core with the old limiters on it?

Ya unfortunately i sent the old rack back as a core and didn't even pay attention to the limiters. But i am positive i saw them on the new rack. Good to know its not a science.

Well since my car sits most of the time, I fired her up and let her idle for like 30 minutes. Ran a KOER test just since I could. Code 11. Tried running the cylinder balance test as well. It all started fine, seemed to be going through the cylinders… then it just died. Started her back up and turned the scanner off, idled fine. Shut her off for the day.

Went out later to get the mail and just for giggles I looked under the car for leaks, because I do believe my oil pan gasket is leaking so I wanted to see if anything was dripping. Lo and behold a new (as in unexpected) pretty good sized oil patch was under the drivers side catalytic converter. I tried sticking my head as far as I could to see where it was coming from but the car is too low. No oil on the cat itself but like coming from between the cat and the frame rail. So now I have to jack the car up and see what’s up.

This is the new spot, not just a drop either. The other spot up to left more under the engine is what I was expecting.

Luckily it hasn’t grown since yesterday. I’ve noticed the car leaks oil when the front is higher than the rear (as my driveway is at a pretty big slope, or when I’ve left the car on ramps/jackstands in the garage). I don’t *think* it’s the rear main seal, but can’t be sure. I’ve cleaned all up in between that area and don’t see new drippings as much as the pan gasket area. The oil pan gasket is all caked with oil/grime all around it. But this new oil leak puddle isn’t near the pan gasket or main seal.

So upon further inspection I don’t think it’s an oil leak. I think part of a cable jacket literally melted and fell to the ground and like started to dissolve and make a wet spot. You can see the blob in the middle of the wet spot and it has a waxy feel to it when I scraped at it.

Ebrake cable maybe? It runs down the frame rail area. Still need to get the car up in the air a little bit to really see what’s going on but time is limited.

Speedo cable ?
Runs from the rear of the transmission along the frame rail and can touch the exhaust and melt if not secured to the clip. An oily Gooey substance drop on the floor is the result.

Interesting, the cable is secured to a clip right by the rail. It has distance from the exhaust but apparently not enough.

Guess enough guessing until I get under there.
