Alright, this'll be my last thread for the day (hopefully, sorry for the spam), but I'm also looking for a tachometer for my 66. I do like the rally packs but they're rediculously expensive on ebay (i have my eye on a few near 200, but one just ended at 750+ and another two were near 500 with time to go... someone would make a killing making repro versions of these... but anyway...).

What other choices are there in classics? Id prefer something roughly the same size and mounted the same as a rally pack, but im not sure if thats possible. I've asked this in the past and haven't gotten too many responses... I do know I bought the 40 dollar summit tach 2 years ago, set it up in my dash, and was disgusted and returned it the next day. I have an MSD if that matters.

Scott Drake started making a reproduction of the original rally pacs for 65-66 Mustangs. I bought one from CJ's Pony Parts for my 66, but just about every Mustang parts vendor carries them now. They come in your choice of color and 6 or 8k tac and cost about $400.00. It's easy to install and looks 100% stock but has modern internals. Definately beats paying an arm and a leg for an original and comes with a warrante.

Autometer makes a bunch of tachs at different sizes and finishes. All of them look a little more "racey" then stock looking, but they dont cost $400.

You can also buy the reproduction rally pac housing and install your gauge of choice. The housing is about 200 bucks if I remember correctly.

Auto Meter makes a 2 5/8 inch pedestal mount tach if space is an issue. I luckily found an original low profile 8,000 rally pack to use.

My buddy has an original 66 rallypack that hes looking to sell..its in GREAT shape. Its a 6000rpm tach..I think he'd sell for $300

I'd love to afford a rally pac too... but in the meantime, I run a Sun Mini SuperTach attached as 1/2 of a cluster...

I use an Autogauge tach that has a built-in shift light and pointer. I can see both the speedo and the amp gauge just fine. Not a bad deal for around $100. It has an all black housing and so doesn't look out of place on the steering column.

I actually replaced my Rally Pac with it to have more accurate shifts at the track. I put the tach on the right side, so I can see it with my left hand at the top of the steering wheel and my right had on the 4 speed shifter:

ive got an autometer tach and trans temp. gauge mounted atop my dash in a 65 shelby gauge pod...most people who have never seen the pod really like the look.

what size should gauges be if i want to buy a rally pac housing and stick custom gauges inside it?

and if anyone else has alternative gauge setups please post them, the ones i've seen so far look pretty good...

I have the exact same tach and setup as JamesW but my tach is on the right hand side of the steering column. This thread might help you, I made it when I was installing mine. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=644834

do those sunpro's plug into MSD tach inputs? if not, what adapter wouldy ou need? they look like a cheap option until I'm loaded enough to go out and buy a rally pac...
