Light weight front wheels?

OK so I want some light weight front wheels for drag racing but never the less my wallet will not cover anything like Bogarts or Alumi stars. So I was thinking about getting some Z rated tires for my spare steel rim and running them on the front for racing. Anyone heard of this or know if I stand to gain much from it ? Any input is welcome

Well, we have a full size spare and not a donut so much. It's also steel. You may shed a few pounds. I think less rolling resistance will be a bigger benefit of doing this.

Less rolling resistance is a bigger benefit as it will help all the way down the track whereas the lighter weight really only benefits on the launch. In that case the spare wheel should work quite well up untill you are looking to shave every .001 you can.

so this is a good idea? A few pounds off the front and less rolling resistance should equal a better ET right. I just don't have $300+ for front wheels and with those being 15" wouldn't i have to mod the brakes as well?

The spare idea will work, not alot, but will. Remember, every little bit helps. I'm guessing a few hundreths(.05). Judging by every 100 lbs = .1 reduction. As a gauge, when I ran in the summer, I dropped 195 lbs(with no other mods from previous runs)from the car and knocked off .236 secs with horrible 330' traction.
The Bogarts don't say if a spacer is required to clear the brakes or not

I weighed my spare just this morning. It was 1.5 lbs. lighter than the 15" Weld draglite and frontrunner tire. I may try to find another spare and put the Z-rated tires on them for the track. With the Welds I have to have longer studs.

I don't think Welds are as light as Bogarts. But still. Wow. Was that fully aired up? The seem pretty heavy to me to be considered lightweight. But if that's the truth, I guess I might run a couple of them at the track too. I already have two.

why not get 2 spacesaver spares from a 99-04 and put metric 165r/15's on them with a 1/8 spacer

I am guessing these are even lighter and would offer a better hole shot as well as less rolling resistance?
