looked for this casting but can not find....

I picked up a motor yesterday that to my surprise (dont know a lot about anything other than the 302) it was a 72 351C motor. So I pulled the casting number on the motor and that is how I found out about the motor being what it is. The heads have this number on them 2F19 Cant find anything on these excpet 67-76 but not if they are 2v or 4v or anything else. Someone help a guy out? Thanks. cody

I don't have casting numbers committed to memory, but the 4v heads are pretty easy to spot if the intake is off. The ports are enormous.

yea i believe i found out that they are 2v heads. here are pics of them. Now being a 2v and what not, does this mean that they are an open chamber head?

"2F19" is the date code on those heads. Translates to June 19, 1972. The easiest way to Id the 2 bbl vs 4 bbl Cleveland heads is the "2" or "4" cast in one of the corners, next to the valve cover. (outside the cover)

They are 4v heads.
To my guess they are closed chamber heads
if you look at the top left and right hand coner of the head when the valves on on the floor it will tell you if it is a 2 or 4 valve head

The ports look like 4 bbl size to me too, but they're obviously open chambered, both from looking at em and the date codes. 70-71 heads were the only years for quench 4 bbl heads.

god wheres my head at???
thanks for fixing my mistake,I was thinking that those could not be closed chamber heads and I wrote down closed chamberheads by mistake.

The pics might be a little missleading. The INTAKE ports look a bit like 4V portsl, but the EXHAUST ports are definitely the 2V version. Look for the "2" or a "4" in the upper corner on the outside of the valve cover area.

it has a 2 on it. so does this mean that they are 2 valve "open chamber" heads or closed chamber heads? If they are open chamber, do they suck?

did you check both of them?
2v are good for stock blocks and mild build ups if you want your car a high street car you might need to go with the 4v or a CHI 3v heads.
dont get me wrong the 2v are plenty good for that engine.

I have about 3 clevelands sitting in my back yard all missing parts lol

2 bbl heads, aren't as good as the 4 bbl versions, but you have to remember that those "little" 2 bbl sized valves are 2.04 & 1.65's. I've seen a dyno test with them with nothing more than a stock short block, a hot cam, and a Holley 750 that put down 405 hp.

ok then, if the 2v heads are ok for now, am I still able to use an intake that came from a 4v motor? I am guessing the ports on the intake would be much bigger than the ports on the heads right? So would this cause problems or should i make sure the intake i get is made for the 2v heads? Sorry for all the questions, just dont want to screw myself on parts. I ask this because I want to get a nice set of heads, but if i can use these for now and save some cash for a nice set of heads, and am going to switch to a 4v head later, i dont want to have to buy 2 different intakes.

No you cannot use a 4V intake on 2V heads. They do make a 2V intake that uses a 4V carb, but then you couldn't use it on your 4V heads when you got them.

You can use the stock 4 bbl intake on 2 bbl heads, using the 4 bbl gaskets, but you'll have a port mismatch that's not in your favor. Edelbrock makes 4bbl intakes (Performer 351) that have 2 bbl sized ports, probably a few others as well.
