I have been looking to upgrade my brakes. I figured since I am making 500 hp I need something better than my stock single piston front setup. I also want something that looks better. I have been researching the Baer system. Their dual piston front kit comes with a new "improved" master cylinder for our cars, which really ups the price. Brembo makes a four piston kit that doesn't cost much more, but it doesn't have the master cylinder.

Who here has upgraded their brakes and what improvements have you noticed? What setup do you have and are you using a new master cylinder? I think the new cylinder would definately help, but I dont know if it is entirely needed. Any pics would help too. Thanks!

The Cobra ones are the same thing but I dont want the Cobra logo. I also like the look of the slotted Baer rotors.

I was looking around a few days ago and found that some , if not all, MACH1's came with same calipers as the Cobras but without the logo. I will shearch for them again and post a link.

Found the link(s)

front calipers:

13" rotors:

Here is the link for a kit that inlcudes both the calipers and rotors:

It is cheaper to buy them seperately from stang suspension than to buy the kit from FFRP ($375 vs.$475). This kit does not include the master cylinder. From what I understand, the some people think that a stock GT master cylinder is just fine (you might want to search for that on your own).

Thanks for all that. Buying the blank caliper and then the rotors would be a great way to save money. It's funny because a couple years ago I sold those exact calipers(minus the bracket) from a 99 GT for $200 on Ebay. I couldnt find the 13 inch conversion bracket anywhere so I just sold them.

I have been looking around for information about the bracket you are talking about. Someone let me know if I am missinformed, there is no clear explanation. 94-95 cars need a bracket to help attach the caliper to the hub but 96-98 cars dont? Do we need the bracket at all?

Without the bracket those calipers rubbed a little on my spindles. It wasnt a real big deal, but I didnt feel comfortable using them. I also didnt think slapping those calipers on my car and still using the stock sized rotors would be of much benefit.

i got the cobra calipers and sanded off the cobra ,then pollished the whole thing. they bolted right on no extra brackets needed and i'm running the stock master cyl too i'm also running the ford slotted and drilled rotors on front and baers on back

Yea, the 13 inch kit bolts right up. Did you notice much of a difference over stock with your upgrade?

I kept the stock MC and it feels just fine, even with stainless lines (I'd recommend getting those).

I've got the Cobra front and rear kits and I'm very pleased. Tons better than stock. Possibly the most effective mod I've done.

That's my 2 cents and another vote for what's already been mentioned above.
