A Fox body friend loaned me this old antique Hypertech Fox body add on performance chip circuit built in this cover with 1989 on the board. I'm after just the cover or housing. I brought it home to trial fit it on 2 years of EEC-V 1996.5 and 1997 Explorer pcms that have to have a chip programmed to hold a custom tune. Also, it would be handy to use on 1998 to 2004 EEC-V pcms that temporarily have the Moates QuarterHorse RT tuning device installed. If anyone has one in there junk drawer collecting dust, let me know. Also, maybe someone works in an electronics chassis shop that could make these. This might be something that send-cut-send could make if an appropriate file was created. Anyone have those skills?

So, is that a chip that can be programmed with a custom tune or a one-size-fits-all kind of deal?

Nevermind... I re-read and I think the chip you're referring to might be irrelevant.

Suggestion: 3D Print it.

@Noobz347 3-D printing had been a passing thought too. There is a government contractor near me ***** Metalcraft, (sorry, I can't say their name out loud), that my wife used to work for that I had considered approaching, but I'm hesitant because they are used to contract prices. I may give Hypertech a call and see if there are some leftover covers in their obsolete room. They are just east of Memphis. Thanks for your reply. A 3-D printer would be nice to have.

There are literally [tons] of online outfits that can do 3D printing.

If you have the piece and want them to the 3D model, you would have to send it to them or provide a really good drawing with measurements.

@Noobz347 Yes, your correct, I was only asking about the cover but that leads me to want to offer information about. The new J3 type chip (I'm not exactly sure it is called at this point) that plugs onto the J3 port, work on Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V pcms. little covers are available for two classes of the EEC-V pcms, but like the one pictured above, out of a 1997 Explorer and the Fox body EEC-IV pcms, galvanized tin type, would need a cover like the one that I'm proposing. That reminds me that today, I need to call Hypertech near Memphis.

I came across a 3D printer file for the T.I. Performance alloy case J3 chip cover. It won't work on the early EEC-V galvanized tin cases or the Fox body ones.

For about $200ish, you could get setup and print your own.

You need another hobby, right?

I need another hobby like I need another orifice in my body, lol.
That really is something that I would considering doing this winter. First, I have to see if my 10-year-old laptop here and the 8.1 desktop PC at work will upgrade to Win 11. Then I will consider it.

Why on God's Earth would you do that?

Look for a Win-10 Pro license key online. 20-25ish bucks. Create the installation media per Microsoft's website.

@Noobz347 I wasn't aware of that. I'm not well versed in "computer". So even though Microsoft is discontinuing support for Window 10 this fall, they don't want to suggest to us common people that possibility exist? I've been exploring downloading OS like "tiny 11" etc. I really need a good PC/laptop etc forum to join to understand all of this more.
I'm a 50 years hands on auto/truck builder. When my kid brother was sitting in his bedroom, assembling the latest greatest computer from "loose" parts, (before the Chinese mass-produced computers), I was outside getting greasy and smelling gasoline.
As I quest into EEC-V tuning, I've had to improve my general PC knowledge along the way. I started by purchasing a new Win 10/11 laptop for my tuning quest. Software from Kazakstan (KZ), ObdII device from Spain, Moates QuarterHorse from LA. Programmer and chips from AU.
I asked google a question.

It will take me quite a while to get to where I can tune. I'm just now getting familiar with the equipment and software involved. I have been able to couple the laptop to the pcm with the QuarterHorse device. This is live feedback from the '99 Crown Vic pcm that is controlling the '99 Explorer 5.0 that has been upgraded to coil-near-plug.
The J3 chips are necessary for 1997 back all the way through to the beginning of EEC-IV to hold the final tune. The '99 CV pcm is flash programmable through the OBD2 port (1998-2004).

I have some narrowband o2 sensor issues. A wideband o2 sensor has been added and is using the old EGR wiring/channel.

If you go out an buy a cheap laptop for tuning and it comes with Win11? Ok, I can see that. No worries.

You just don't need to "upgrade" any machines to Win11. It's really not an upgrade at all. It's just another ploy to put invasive on your computer systems.

Hit me up in PM in you'd like help finding something suitable... and cheap.

Ok. I will do that. My "tuning" only laptop is maybe a year old, so it is all good.

My Win10 laptop is not upgradable due to the processor and TPS hardware. I don't plan on upgrading (i.e. spending money) on a new laptop. Since support will no longer be available, as long as you aren't out there on fishy internet websites with the potential to get viruses, etc. it won't be a problem.

Security updates [will] be available after November for a nominal fee.

We have a few more years to go on Win 10 still.
