I appreciate all the comments,. I'm aware of the T5 debate, but there are thousands of T5's out there in mildly modified cars living long and happy lives. With a little common sense and just some occasional spirited driving I'm not too worried about it holding up for my purposes. If I was going to be hammering on it at the track every weekend, I would definitely look into something more heavy duty. I also have to justify the expense to my wife, and if she's not happy nobody's happy

FYI, my comment wasn't directed at you, and yes, you can run a T5. My intention was to battle misinformation that seems to be showing up often lately with new member's posts. Most people know that you can get away with a T5 with a warmed up engine if you treat it right.. However, to the uneducated, the general statment "A T5 will handle 400 hp" is false.

Sorry for the interruption, I like your car!

Oh, no worries I enjoy the input from everybody. Back when I owned my first two Foxbodies, the internet, parts and information wasn't nearly as easy to find. I like the fact that you and other enthusiasts are around and willing to share information with others like me. That and I'm a little older and have a little more expendable income and a nice shop to work on my hobbies make this Fox way more fun than my others

Well, welcome aboard, man! There really is a wealth of knowledge, and a lot of great fellas here that are happy to help fellow fox lovers. You should consider starting a progress thread with pics of that nice car of yours to show improvements as you go. We all love to see them!

I love the new member comment. Been getting that a lot, not my first rodeo... It's all a game of numbers, and I an many others have a different opinion then yours. There are more 400ish hp foxes out there with T5's then with an upgrade trans. So I think it's ok to say a T5 can handle 400hp on the street. The more that hit the street, the more potential failures. They don't all break at the magical 400hp. Lol.

No, they don't break at the magical 400 mark. Most break with stock hp with a good 3rd gear shift. You can argue it all day long if you like, and you probably will judging by your attitude in your previous posts. It doesn't change fact.

The point is that a stock, non-modified T-5 can survive behind a 400 HP engine.

How long, and what has to be done to be able to say that are not " set in stone" tips, and techniques to make that happen everytime, with everybody.

As you have pointed out, there is always a different opinion with every owner. but I agree, you cannot make that statement.
Firstly, for the league of "more 400ish hp foxes out there", How do you get that info? Did you take an unofficial "stock T5 w/ 400ish power poll? You do not know what they have experienced w/ parts failure. So again, that isn't an accurate statement.
Just because Buford down the street has a 347 w/ a T5 doesn't mean that he hasn't had to lay under the car, and remove it in the past, simply because he didn't tell you he did.

Secondly. (Take this from a guy that has sold high performance parts across the counter)
If you tell somebody that "he'll be ok" w/ whatever,as long as he doesn't drive like an idiot, and he breaks it. Who's he gonna blame? Again, as you stated above, one person's version of what driving like an idiot is one thing, my version is completely something else.

So bottom line,....it's always safe to go w/ common concensus when offering advice/opinions to a newcomer. T5's fail at 400HP, stock 5.0 blocks fail at 500HP, 28 spline axles will break w/ subjected to drag strip abuse with slicks, blah-blah-blah. We all know the guy that claimed to have a stock 302 that he revved to 8000 RPM daily.......and he may have done that.......does that mean that everybody can?

Agree....to disagree. My comment is, Will they fail, sure, but not all. Except for your 8000rpm stock 302, yep, that is pretty clear.

I broke my first T5 with a stock bolt on 302. The car had less than 25,000 miles on it back in the early 90's. Happened on the street with street tires and some spirited driving(just like the planned usuage of this car-200hp). I've seen lots of T5's broken in the last 25 years. Most were due to powershifting. Kchaser-you sir give terrible advise. I've read your previous posts(here and the other thread). Good luck with your endeavors but I will be blocking your comments.

Now again can/will a T5 magically blow up at that level. Not necessarily but it will be on borrowed time. If the owner always granny shifts it and never gets to aggressive, it will last a lot longer. I'm rebuilding mine because to be honest I've run out of money at the moment and just want to drive the car. I will most definetly be looking to upgrade in the future. Just my .02

What I read is "opinions not welcome, the sheep are always right". Whatever dude. Sorry something you disagree with requires you to put on the blinders. Good luck, your money not mine.

Ok, back to the horsepower topic.

Here's a re-list of current mods with some things I left out:original 302 bored .030", forged pistons, B303 cam, Y303 aluminum heads, 65mm throttle body, cobra intake with spacer, 90mm mass air, BBK CAI, crane 1.72 roller rockers, BBK 1 5/8" ceramic shorty headers, aluminum drive shaft, 31spline moser axles, T5 trans.,adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 30lb injectors, 3.73 rear end, sub frame connectors, aluminum radiator and contour electric fan, off road h pipe with no cats and warlock drag mufflers, 130amp alternator upgrade.

Car runs strong. I had some idle and heating issues when I bought it, but solved that by upgrading the cooling system and fixing some vacuum leaks. It never overheated, just ran too warm. Timing was also at 14 degrees and I bumped it back to 12.

So can you guys give me an estimate on what you think I'm at for horsepower right now?

Strictly bench top racing I would say 285 to the wheels. Cam is holding you back.

I was just about to post that! LOL..

I would guess by looking at some of the combos in that thread @Sparky714 is probably making around 275 rwhp... sound about right? Most similar combos with tw heads or afr are doing about 300.

I'd give a bit more as the y heads flowed more than regular gt40s. With a better intake/cam 300 would be a reasonable number.

I was just looking thru that thread, yeah high 200's looks about right. I do love the idle with the "b" cam though

I would look to get a bigger throttle body and egr spacer. At least 75mm to match that maf. Will help with the sc down the road.
