LT header install problems

I'm on day 3 of my long tube header install. After jacking up the motor to get the passenger header in, I noticed that when I lowered the engine the mount didn't go down into its normal place. I figured that if I tightened up the bolt it would pull back in to place but that didn't happen. Now my X-pipe doesn't fit because the passenger tube is hitting the cross member. So what the hell do I do now? I've tried re-jacking up the engine and seeing if its sits down the right spot but it didn't.

On top of that, my BBK header studs don't fit my X-pipe, so I'm using bolts. This is such a pain in the ass, I really don't know if its worth it.

I'm doing the same install myself on my 94. I found that if you jack up the passenger side slide the header in, then lower the car back down it installs pretty easy. My header is hitting on the bell housing where the starter mounts. So out comes the grinder (my best friend)!
If you took off the large nut that holds the motor mount to the K member then you must have it bound on something when you jacked up the motor. Loosen the driver side as well and re jack up the motor, shake the jack around and maybe you'll be able to see where it's binding up.

You might have to remove both motor mount nuts and try jacking it again. Getting my bbk LT's in took about 5 minutes with the heads off :D My 1 5/8" bbk longtubes also cleared my mcleod blowproof bellhousing too. Hope the 1 3/4" clear and fit good too.

Well when the car chassis is not on all four wheels, the chassis twists a little bit. If you put the car back on four wheels and then let the motor down, it would probably go back in the same spot.

Thats a good point, I never thought about that. I actually have two wheels on blocks right now.

Now my only problem is getting the studs into the headers, the threads are real sh**ty. And my Pypes X-pipe is no where near fitting. Even with 5 pieces its still 2" too wide. I also have to drill out the flanges so the stud fits into the x-pipe. Wow does the aftermarket industry suck!

So, Im about to decide on LT or Shorties. Would you guys say shorties are easier to install?

Shorties!!!! I wont even go into how much chit it took to put my mac 1 3/4 lts w/3" collector on with an AODE I even had to weld in the O2 bung on the passenger side because the O2 sensor wouldnt clear the tranny and not to mention my steering shaft slightly rubbing against the header.

L/T's from a fox might not fit the S/N's? Are these L/T's from a fox your tryingto install? As for stuff not fitting and linning up it could be the brand? Mine are a bitch but i have shorties and there cheap ass one's. I have a set of bassani's on the way and they are equal lenth not L/T's tho. I think if you can get them to fit or if you can afford to sell them and buy a qualitiy set of L/T's like bassani then it will be well worth it!!! BASSANI BABY!!!!!! peace

These are LT's for a 94-95, the headers aren't the problem, its that the motor mount isn't sitting down in the original place. I think what was stated before about the car being off the ground is the reason why.

They Pypes x-pipe is worthless, I have to drill out the flanges to get the studs to fit and cut 1.5" off two tubes to make it thin enough to meet the collectors. The collectors line right up with my old h-pipe so I know its not the headers.

I lined up a set of Bassanis on my car, they hang VERY low. If you have a street car, they'll be scraping alot.

I had to hit my headers with acetylene (anneal) and whack em' with a hammer to help with the clearance (then add oxygen to your mix to strengthen it up) and I still couldnt do it with the engine just jacked up. I had to pull the engine, which I'm glad I did the tfs stage1 cam I installed worked out great.

How well do you clear the steering shaft on your driver side????

Gotcha I'm a little ticked at the aftermarket right now with stuff not fitting, lack of instructions, and my favorite parts not included.

So I welded up my own 3" exhaust I looks/sounds cool but sits pretty low (there goes lowering the car). I just have to buy some dumps for the back of the flowies next.

I hear ya, I just wrote a nasty letter to Pypes. The sales jerk at the World Ford challenge told me it would fit like a glove.

I know this a little late and probably won't make you feel real good, but, my BBK's LT's went on in about an hour and a half and I never unblolted or loosend the motor mounts or starter. I did unbolt the steering shaft. I had the front end jacked up w/the rear wheels on the ground. I've got some taller than normal (I guess) jackstands. Fully compressed they're like 17 or 18 inches and I think they go up to like 24". If I remember correctly the passenger side dropped in from above and the drivers side went infrom the bottom. Whole thing took me about 3 or 4 hrs, but this did not, I repeat, DID NOT, include farting w/the x-pipe install. That is an entirely different nightmare.....

I could have put them in with the starter in place, but I tried for quite awhile to get them in without the motor jacked up. In fact I had to jack it up quiete a bit to get it to fit in.

I like the mantra, I'm an eastern philosophy nut. "A diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials" -Buddha

X pipe install was definitely a "trial"

Just thinking....is your smog stuff still in place? Not just the pump, but the tube canister and that long pipe that goes to the cats? Maybe that is why mine was easier, because, ummmmmm, someone stole all my emissions crap, uh huh!
