I wasn't singling you out specifically and it's not that I'm trying to be a smart ass here, but what exactly do you think the term weather stripping refers to anyway? It's meant to protect whatever is behind it from the exact elements you stated. Who cares if it even only lasts even a single season? If it wears, or rots off, just unroll another 5-6ft and start all over again.

I really don't see the harm in using it anyway, since it's mostly a looks piece. I mean.....exactly how much protection from the elements do they really need to offer to begin with? None of the previous SN-95's had a chin spoiler until the introduction of the '03 Mach 1 anyway and they all did fine without them up until that point.

While I agree with you that some home made mods should be left to the rice crowd, I don't think ones like this should be dismissed so blatantly (again, not singling you out).

I remember a few years ago, I made a custom CAI out of 3" ABS pipe that drew cold air in from the inner fender through a giant K&N conical filter. I had it finished off with smoothed edges and painted up to the point where it looked better than factory and you couldn't even tell there were elbows on it. Everybody though it was great until I told them I had made it myself with parts from the hardware stored. Most of my friends laughed at me and told me how ghetto it was. Never mind that I had the fastest car of the bunch and for the least amount of money.

The funny thing was, that a couple years later, fender well CAI's became the hottest thing since sliced bread....and wouldn't you know it a few years after their introduction, the best kit available on the market today (JLT) just happens to be made of....you guessed it, ABS plastic that draws the air in from the inner fender well.

I’m really not sure where I was going with this rant, but I guess my point is, is just because something might be low tech, inexpensive or home made doesn’t mean it should be considered worthless, or the butt of everyone’s joke. Because someone out there might be patenting that particularly fruitless idea as we speak and will proceed to make a very tidy profit from it in years to come. After all….who’s the real fool? The one who comes up with and makes use of the stupid idea that everyone laughed at, or the one who waits for someone else to come up with it first, just to turn around and pay them top dollar to use it themselves later on down the line?
