Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster

The sound is just a personal prefrence. I've seen and heard just about every catback setup available.. I ended up going with magnaflow for a few reasons

1. I have a blower car and it'd benifit from the straight through design

2. Build quality.. simply no comparison to Flowmasters. Magnaflows have beautifully polished tips, drop dead GORGEOUS stainless mufflers (shame they're out of site) and stainless steel mandrel bent tubing. Thier tips are completely adjustable for hieght, side to side movement as well as for how far back they protrude from the bumper. Good luck getting the adjustability or quality from a flowmaster catback.

3. Price. I know thier MSRP went up but if you hunt around you can still find excellent deals. I paid 385 shipped for my catback.. Couldnt be happier. The packaging was amazing too.

4. Sound. I had a Probe with a catback and hated the drone. These are quiet when I want them to be (most of the time, I hate getting pulled over) and loud when I want to be intimidating. Perfect balance with little to no drone. This sound wont wear out like the flowmasters will.

magnaflows are awesome sounding but I went with the flows for 2 reasons 1 cobra killer swears that the Dr. Gas and Flows gives the best performance and 2 I love that classic V8 rumble that only the flows can give.

I don't have alot of drone there is some between 1800-2000 rpm's but it's hardly bad at all and it's something that doesn't bother me at all as well as any of my passengers. WOT is just to drool over I'm am 100% satisfied that I chose this exhaust setup other than going with some LT's I will never change my exhaust.

That combo does have a real mean sound. Kidd had that (prolly still does) on his car.

My UPR x-pipe into 2 chambered original flows sounds freaking awesome. Sounds SOO much different on the outside then on the inside. From the interior, it sounds muffled and you can't really hear the rumble. When I recently took my car in to get my springs installed, I had the guy drive it, and as he crept out onto the road and accelerated, I just stood there and drooled. It sounds deep, throaty, and has a pronounced echo to it, with an exotic bark. (xpipe)...it sounds extremely intimidating, sounds better then almost any other flowmaster fitted mustang i've heard, most likely becuase of the X-pipe. Ive had guys drive beside me and give the thumbsup or tell me my exhaust sounds awesome.

From inside the cabin IMO it's too quiet, but from the outside it is M U C H louder and emits one of the best exhaust notes i've heard. :nice: Not trying to toot my own horn, but I think I have scored a nice combination.

Mustang = Flowmasters

Magnapacks = Farm Truck

Nuff said.

Catted X Pipe + Magnapacks = exotic, street car

Flows = You're on your way to a pickup truck meet to go muddin, after killin you some hogs!

Im going with Mac exhaust myself, it offers to best performance out of all 2.5 inch exhaust systems for the 03 Cobras

Two different animals here, chambered mufflers VS straight-through mufflers.

A bit of info & my own opinion:

While Flowmasters sound good on a 5.0 and give the foxes that "definitive 'stang muscle car sound," they really don't offer too much in the way of performance gains. Plus, they sound a little "weird" on the modular 4.6L motors - again, my opinion.
The chambered-style mufflers (MAC, Flowmaster, etc) are loud & known for an annoying "drone," as you probably already know. They also don't offer much of a performance gain, but they are probably slightly better than a stock exhaust.

On the other side of the fence, you have your straight-through muffler products, such as Magnaflow, Bassani, Dynomax, etc. These mufflers tend to be on the quieter side (compared to their chambered muffler counterparts), but they deliver gobs of performance due to their "straight through" internal design - they have an exotic-like sound to them, and if you combine them with an offroad midpipe, you might have a combo which is equally as loud at WOT.

:cheers:

:rolleyes:
Mufflers do not give you "gobs" of performance on a Mustang. I have never seen any evidence that straight through mufflers make any more power than a chambered muffler on a Mustang.

In fact, I know of one guy who made LESS rwhp with a Magnaflow catback than a Flowmaster catback.

Get whichever muffler sounds better to you, because in reality Magnaflows aren't going to give you any more power than Flowmasters or vice versa.

It depends on your setup. Forced induction cars like open exhausts.. I dont even wanna bother digging around for the evidence, but its out there.

either flowmasters or maganpacks. he will be disapointed with maganflow with an otherwise stock exhaust. once you ditch the cats I like the magnaflows better just because I hate just plain loud exhaust unless you have cams and a real engine to back up the sound. to open of an exhaust without cams sounds crappy IMO.

I agree, sounds way to hollow on a stock or fairly stock mustang.
