Mass Air cleaning????

I read on another thread at a different site that If you have a CAI on your car that has the filter that uses the oil to catch the dirt and dust...like MAC or K&N...that you should clean your Mass Air sencer every now than cause the oil thats on the filter get on that sencer and make the computer read lean or somthing and make the car run rich, and that you should clean the mass air with an electronic cleaner? It even had pictures of him doing it on his 99 cobra.... Is this true or could that possibly ***k your mass air up?????

Getting oil from aftermarket air filters on the thin wire sensor inside the MAF can and does happen. 99% of the time it's the owners fault because they do not clean and service their air filter correctly. Will a brand new K&N filter get oil on the sensor? Not likely... but when people wash and re-oil the filter themselves they use too much oil and then this in turn causes the problem.

If you need to clean the MAF sensor wire be sure to use an spray cleaner designed specifically for electronics which leaves no residue.

Yes the Archive does rock, only thing I would add is if you are using a K&N, like I do, then invest a couple of dollars in a paper filter. What you do then is take the K&N out, clean and oil it, and let is sit for a couple of days to allow the oil to soak completely in or drain the excess off. In the mean time, you are still able to drive around with the paper one in. After the couple days, make sure to wipe the excess oil off the rubber ends of the K&N filter, and put it back in.....No problems to report here.

Not trying to be an ass here... but if you oil it using the method and instructions included with the filter there's no need to let it sit and soak or drain. If you have to do that you've used too much oil! A little goes a long way and just a drop or two on each pleat is all that's necessary.

still, some tends to get on the rubber ends. Not to mention there are places, like the metal seam, that hold the oil, only to release it at a later date in time. What I am doing just insures there is no oil contamination to the Mass Air.....but what ever trips your trigger
