theres two N/A S351s in the area, one 94 one 95. they both for some reason want to pick on me at the local hangout since my cars gonna be s/c'ed again soon as its out of the shop. the one is a vert has an aftermarket xpipe but otherwise theyre both untouched. i thought the vert was an R code because it has the heat extractor hood but its not. how would i do against them? ive never been in a S351 and i dont know too much about them besides the vert says he has 400hp the coupe is having some tuning problems blows smoke and shoots fire out the pipes

I'd race the fire spewing coupe! Likely to win that race no matter what!

The S351 N/A cars were rated at 371 hp at the crank. I doubt that guy with an x pipe is making 400. All S351's came with crappy tunes. Race him before he gets it fixed. If they are untouched I can't believe they even are running 3.55's or better. If the motors are original then you actually have a good chance watching one of them literally blow up their motor right in front of you during the race.
I want to live in a place where kid's that race have money to buy S351's. Sounds like it's growing on trees.

Me too!

I would take a 331 or 347 blown stroker in a Fox body over that N/A S351 any day. Which brings me back to my dilema on my 89 with the broken bottom end.

Just drop a blown 347 in there and put her back together Marcus. It's only money! You live in CA right? Sell the house and move East. You can take that 500K in equity from the sale of your 900sqft condo, pay cash for a house in any sensible location, and do as much as you want to any Saleen on the planet. Less traffic, lower fuel prices, lower insurance, and you can fly to CA as many times a year as you want to visit the beach. Remember, after building the house and playing with the Saleens you'll still have 200+ grand in the bank...

It's not the motors with S351's. The motors were built by a reputable co. It's the tune that kills them. Saleen just did not know how to get it right until it was all over in 1999.

So if you had an early model S351 with low miles, has not been ragged out, and got a proper tune would they then be more reliable? Even safe enough to buy if you can fund one?

They should be. N/A they don't have the issue with the need for the upgraded fuel system. A N/A car should be pretty reasonably priced right now.
