Milling a wheel??

Has anybody ever heard or had any experience with taking some metal off the hub area to tuck a wheel in more?

My 99up Saleen 18x9 front wheels are rubbing........Saleen wheels for 94-98 were 8.5"wide, The 99up 9" wheels stick out 1/2" further and rub the fender. They might not if the car was stock and had a 4x4 stance.

I wouldn't do it as then you are taking material out of the most stressed and critical part of the wheel, the hub around the lugs.

i'm looking to do the same thing to one of my rear wheel spacers to tuck the wheel in some more, as the drivers side sticks out about 1/4 inch more.

rim rubbing up front?

Well I know that the 99 rim stick out farther than the 94's as far as the fronts go, but I didn't know you can have issues with rubbing especially up front. Is it really that bad? Is it rubbing the tire and cutting through it? I know that the front fenders are kinda factory-rolled that is why I wonder. I know its a dumb question but are you running rear rims up front? What size tire you got up front? Is your suspension that low, I would think that you have the racecraft set up which would put you at a nice ride height. CC plate adjustment? I have 99-04's up front racecraft springs and n2's. I have no rubbing whatsoever even though the rims do stick out farther on the front.

I put these on S351#58. No i'm not running rear offset's on the front ,I'm running 10" rears 9" fronts. The front is not cutting yet but I just started driving it with the rims, just when you go to pull in somwhere (Turning in) and there is any kind of rise it hits. The front sits kinda low with the Racecraft suspension. I just don't want to deal with this.....also with the front track being wider than the rear I noticed going down the freeway it is tracking weird. It didn't do this when I had 18x8.5" stock rims on. Also in mid 1995 Saleen changed the ride height of the springs and raised the cars up. All 1994's and some 1995's had lower springs....this might be what I have or they are just sagging with age.

Yeah you are right. If they are original springs, you can almost bet they are settled a bit. But then again, when I turn in or my bro does with his car too, into a driveway or such the wheels tuck in behind the fender when they retract (if you will). Since the susp. makes the wheels go up and down on an axis (more or less), they shouldn't go straight up even with week springs, but rotate slightly inward. Huh, I'm stumped, but very interested. This is the first time I have heard this happen with sn95's and the 99-04 saleen's. I wonder how the car sits. You should post pics how it sits from a couple angles. And of course if you figure something out, I would like to know how it turns out for ya. Oh is your fender tucked in all the way up? Again ive heard of rubbing on the lower front swaybar up front, but not how urs rubs. One thing is for sure, there is a fix.

I was waxing my wheels today and was thinking the same thing. My front wheels stick out a little as well, I do not know if they rub yet because I havent driven the car. Kinda sucks because I want to lower the car another 1/2 inch. Subscribing

I just might be o.k.!
When I put the rims on and drove it for the first time as I pulled into a parking lot that had a “rise” as you entered I could hear a scraping. I assumed it was the right front since I was turning right. I was coming home from the muffler shop and had open exhaust on the way there and didn’t hear a thing!! Anyway I did have some scraping on the drivers rear….I have never had the rear scrape before….part of the inner wheel well had turned out and was hitting. I pounded it back and took it out last weekend with no scraping at all. I did not pull into any driveways or parking lots though. I will try it out this week and see…maybe I’m o.k. I did think that I heard the front scrape when I went into the parking lot but maybe I was wrong.

I do want to run a spacer on the rear because it will follow bad pavement on the freeway. I think its from the front rims sticking out more than before. The front wheels look like they stick out more than the rear now! The car just dosen't "look" right like this.
What is the largest spacer you can run with stock studs? On another site they said ¼”. I wouldn't mind trying them to see. I will have to check and see how much I could bring it out because I would pull the axles and put in longer studs and maybe run a bigger spacer but would like to try the easy way first.

i run 1" spacers in the rear that have studs built into them, so basically the spacer is fastened to the axle studs and the wheel is fastened to the spacer studs.

I didn't think I could sapce mine out that much, kinda why I wanted to see what I could get away with on the stock studs, although I would like to space it out as much as I can...then I would have to do what you are doing or go longer studs.

So you have one wheel that sticks out more in the back though right??
What size rims in the back 9" or 10"?
What size tires?
Are they real Saleen wheels or replica's? Not sure if the replica's have the same offset as Saleen's do.

Do you have lowering springs? I would love to run 1" spacers but I would think they would rub on the back?? I put a ruler across the front of the tire going up to the fender and if I add 1" they would stick out.......but this is the side of the tire. The tread is "in" a little more. I think they would look awesome!!

thanks!! u can see how the passenger rear looks perfectly tucked in, the drivers side sticks out just a bit too much for my liking. because it does stick out a little more the tire is prone to getting cut up by the lip of the rear quarter panel so instead of rolling the quarters i rather just get my spacer milled, plus it will make both sides look even.
